Figure makers have barely scratched the surface for what can be done in 28mm historical plastic kits. With the upcoming release of Persians, Afghans, and Dark Age Irish we're starting to fill in some gaps that desperately needed plastic. But we'd also like to branch out into all new territory.

To this end, we asked for suggestions on Facebook for some iconic matchups where two sets would cover the main antagonists in a conflict. We're not talking about multi-sprue sets here but simple sets that get you the basics of both sides in two boxes that are released at the same time so you and your wargaming friends can start building your armies straightaway.

We received hundreds of responses and suggestions and from those have narrowed down to a list of 10. The primary criteria for picking the 10 included whether or not we thought a decent set could be built with the sprue space available for this experiment. Suggestions that received either multiple mentions or more attention were also favored.

We have designed the poll in two steps. Step 1 is to vote for ANY of the 10 that you would purchase. Step 2 is to choose only your #1 choice to buy (preferably multiple boxes!) We apologize in advance if your choice isn't among the 10 or if none of the 10 appeal to you. If this experiment is a success there will be future opportunities. Have a go and let's see what comes of it.

You'll have an opportunity to leave your email at the end of the poll for a chance to win some free figures.

One caveat: if there is no clear leader or few overall votes we reserve the right to do absolutely nothing!

About the Maori, it would be nice if parts for pre-contact options were to be included…

I am patiently waiting for New Kingdom Egyptians in plastic…

I'll have to pass. The "only one box a side" program pretty much wipes out horse & musket warfare.

Ninja vs Samurai
Vikings vs French, English, Russian

I am not sure what you mean, Robert? For example, for the 1860s New Zealand Wars, a box of Maori vs a box of British or colonial NZ troops would give you more than enough for a game. If you want cavalry or guns, you could always add them from other manufacturers, but many New Zealand Wars battles never involved horse or guns anyway.

Ps: You can see which set I am voting for!!

Early Hundred Years War have already been done. I would like to see 1870 French v Prussians or 1859 French v Austrians.

I appreciate the concept of releasing two matching, opposing sides for a given conflict – in the past some plastic manufacturers have just released one side for a conflict in plastic, which is not as attractive than being able to obtain both sides done in similar fashion.

That said, the entry for 1980's NATO vs. Warsaw Pact is rather vague, as there were a number of nations on either side with varying uniforms and weapons: Western Germany, Brits, US, French, Soviets, East Germans, Polish, Hungarians, Romanians etc.

Early Hundred Years War have already been done.

It has not, when we are talking about hard plastic in 28 mm there is nothing available for circa 1350 AD.

Closest products are the Perry HYW range, which is for the early 15th century, and the Fireforge Games crusaders which are suitable for 13th century.

Then again, I am not sure this is a topic that could be easily covered by two kits. While there was no major difference in the style of clothing or armour between the French and English, there were a lot of different troops types: mounted knights (and men-at-arms), dismounted knights, spearmen, archers, crossbowmen etc. I think in practice you would need more than two sets to cover all of that properly.
