We all know who Sun Tzu is I guess, and he's got strategic thinking that is brillient. But what about the tactical aspects of ancient Chinese warfare? Any recommendations there? |

Ralph Sawyer's translation of The Seven Military Classics of Ancient China (of which Master Sun is, of course, one). |

The Thirty-Six Strategies is pretty interesting. Originally attributed to Sun Tzu, it's believed that these proverbs were written by Zhuge Liang during Three Kingdoms period. link |

Also Ancient Chinese Warfare by Ralph Sawyer, which covers pre-history to the Shang IIRC. He was also supposed to be doing further books covering later periods but I think these have been delayed. 'The Eurasian Way of War: Military Practice in Seventh-Century China and Byzantium' by David Graff covers some tactical practices in Tang Chinese armies, and compares them with practice in contempory Byzantine armies. |
