Did Harold fly flags or draco standards or both? Is there a company selling 15mm flags for all the armies in a 1066 campaign? Regards, j |

As well as the dragon/wyvern windsock standard illustrated on the Tapestry (and on the page that Platypus John links to), Harold's personal standard was the Fighting Man: "The king himself on foot, stood with his brother, near the standard; in order that, while all shared equal danger, none might think of retreating. This standard William sent, after the victory, to the pope; it was sumptuously embroidered, with gold and precious stones, in the form of a man fighting." -from William of Malmesbury's chronicle. There is no contemporary illustration of this, apparently, but one of the flags on the LBM sheet is probably meant for it, and there is another suggestion at link |
