Hi all.

I'm in the process of putting armies together for this period. The resources I have purchased aren't clear on the colour of U.S gun carriages for this period, and pictures I have studied aren't conclusive.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The ones I have seen at San Pasqual were blue.

Try this:

I painted Mexican pieces in this shade; I think there are other guns from the same location that are done in a shade of olive green (possibly U.S.?).

US should be an olive green color, Mexico should be a light blue gray color. I am basing this off of photos from carriage colors on display at battlefields and am assuming they have researched this appropriately.

I have read that many Mexican pieces were unpainted wood. I painted my US pieces in an olive color achieved by mixing black and yellow together. I believe I pulled that from the Tony Adams' book. I decided to paint mine as such.

Unpainted carriages as well as ochre yellow and light blue are good for Mexican guns. The US was already using ordinance green, a light shade of olive green also seen in the later ACW gun carriages.

Definitely a "military olive" for the Yanquis.
