Finally got the Dong Ba Tower finished (been talking about it long enough). Citadel East wall in Hue and so well known because of the photo series by Olson and the Japanese photographer whose name will come to me in a minute.

Mostly Gringos40 but I did manage to add a few Empress, chosen because these figures really were hugging the ground and I have always wanted to use the chap with the ammo belts over his back. The size disparity I concealed to some degree by choosing prone figures, adding to their helmet sizes and giving them well padded out long sleeves.

Just missing the photographer himself but awaiting some figure to convert and add. The bricks? Yes, one by one, hand made….sad really. Great thing about daily exposure to what is basically Chernobyl, gives you time at home then for such activities;

Wonderful work! Can't imagine how much time and effort it took especially the one-by-one brick assembly and placement

Thanks a lot all of you. Glad you liked this.

The other photographer was of course Kyoichi Sawada. His are mostly B&W photos of this incident and, like Olson, he took incredible risks to get those images. Remarkable to try and piece them together in the right sequence e.g the corpsman opening his field dressing and then applying it to a wounded leg or evacuating, from the tower top, a chap in a peaked cap of all things! Thoms features in the background in many, easily recognised with his torn overalls, burnt off helmet cover and the double T shirt look.

Cheers!

Obviously many images from the two photo sequences, readily available on line, but here is just one;

and please indulge me. Not just pushing it back to the top, but I cannot resist this one. Sawada's photos are all B&W and the film strip is still available on line…at a fee.
