Now don't get me wrong, I love a good metal pike, and have used them quite a bit- I also have the scars to show it. More times than I care to remember I've impaled myself on my pike blocks. Looking for a good, and much more economical alternative, I found others making and using styrene plastic for pikes. Here's my step by step on how to make your own

Plastic broom bristles also work nicely.

I bought an entire broom just for the pikes.

PS: I also bought a wire brush for 1/2400 masts & spars, and a hairbrush for airplane antennae/cannons/pitot tubes. Straightening spooled wire is a waste of time.

Thanks Gents!
Admiral, I shied away from the broom straws as the plastic tends to shed paint unless you go through the pains of treating them- and you have to hunt and peck for the best things. Wire brush for ships is brilliant!

Darthfozzy- Cheers- that bat tutorial was a fun one, and really easy to do. It really is worth it to invest in the insect pins as they are super thin- although one can use styrene rod as well. Just bend the end into an "L" shape.

True. Nothing likes to stick to nylon.
