… happen in their lifetime

"Amid rising tensions between Iran and the US, millennials around the world are worried now more than ever that we're on the brink of World War III, according to alarming new data published by the International Red Cross.

Millennials consider war and armed conflict to be among the top five most important issues affecting people around the world today…."

Odd that, as over half of the Baby Boomers were convinced that WWIII would happen in their life time…. Somethings never change eh?

Thresher0117 Feb 2020 11:57 p.m. PST

Ye, same old concern.

Wackmole918 Feb 2020 7:10 a.m. PST

But on the other side more than half don't believe it will happen.

Come class, our meditation for the day:

ooommmm be as one with the half-fullness and emptiness of the glaaasss ooommmm

Half of people believe intelligent aliens exist.

Half of people believe Jeffrey Epstein didn't commit suicide.

Half of people believe in …(fill in almost anything).

Thresher0118 Feb 2020 8:41 a.m. PST

Alas, the new kids at least don't have to do the "duck and cover" drills anymore, like we did back in the day, unless they live in an earthquake zone.

Not that that would have done any good vs. multi-megaton warheads, especially if you lived in the CEP.

Most millennials or even others in the USA couldn't ID who fought in the WWII let alone be really concerned about WWIII. Which I'm pretty sure it won't happen anytime soon , if at all.

I often see those "man on the street" interviews on news programs and in the media. The average younger individual couldn't even ID who fought in the ACW or who won ?

My take : We'll be fighting the GWoT for quite sometime. And it won't be WWIII.

Half of people believe intelligent aliens exist.
I too strongly believe that if for no other reason with the size of our galaxy let alone the universe. It would be a statistical improbability. But I'm waiting for them to land on the WH lawn to confirm that …

With the world in such disarray, it came to no surprise to Mr Daccord that millennials living in countries at war had hope for a brighter future and were willing to stand up for humanity, with 74 per cent believing most wars could be avoided.

Mr. Chamberlain, it's time for your speech.

Actually, scads of little wars is one of the things that prevent one big war from happening. It's not a good thing. But if you want to fix a problem, you should probably know how the thing you want to fix actually works.

Come on miiiennials, make up your mind.

WWIII, global warming, don't worry nobody gets out alive anyway. grin

USAFpilot18 Feb 2020 11:37 a.m. PST

Me too Legion 4, I believe intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe. My point was that you could take a poll about almost anything and find that half believe one way and half believe the other way. Nothing gained by such polls. Thus posted under utter drivel.

I believe intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe.

Well, it certainly doesn't exist here …

"Mostly harmless"

Robert le Diable18 Feb 2020 2:27 p.m. PST

According to what TMP directed me to earlier this evening (or, at least, 'links' in another thread), it seems that a lot of preparation is being made for a Zombie Apocalyse.

Which half is Jar Jar Binks in…? ;-)

nobody gets out alive anyway.
That really is the bottom line … evil grin

USAFpilot +1 They may be smart enough to not get involved with the life forms on this third rock from the sun. The intelligent ones anyway …

Thresher0118 Feb 2020 4:39 p.m. PST

I'm sadly with etotheipi on the issue of "intelligent life" on our little marble, anyway.

It also seems like 95% of millennials believe that if they borrow money someone else should pay it back.

SSDD!

Also, gotta go with eto, once again, dammit!!

As Buzz Lightyear put it, "No signs of intelligent life."

@USAFpilot
"Mostly harmless"

"So, long, and thanks for all the fish."

"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

@USAFpilot
Half of people believe intelligent aliens exist.

Half of people believe in …(fill in almost anything).

Oh wait, that's 3 halves?!?!
My head hurts

Slow Oats18 Feb 2020 6:07 p.m. PST

Maybe the third half is the aliens?

Russ Lockwood18 Feb 2020 6:36 p.m. PST

Didn't WWIII already happen…in 1992…oh wait, that was The Eugenics War in a Star Trek episode… Sheesh. The things you miss. :)

it seems that a lot of preparation is being made for a Zombie Apocalyse.

That's me!

Resilience planning is done with reference to a hypothetical event. Why not pick a very high end (that you could still survive) hypothetical event with the assumption that readiness for a large number of lower end events are subsumed within it?

That was an extremely awkward and wordy sentence. Retry.

If I'm prepared for the ZA, then I am also prepared for the power to go out for an hour during the winter. And a lot of other, more likely things.

Most of my prepping involves distilled alcohol, as it is a light, heat, generator/auto fuel, critical ignitable ranged weapon component, antiseptic, anesthetic, painkiller and entertainment mechanism. It's also good for removing dried-on dry erase marker from D&D mappi … er … temporary contingency planning efforts.

What was this thread about, again? Millennials? Yeah, they're just unilaterally horrible people. I blame their parents.

Yes, that is another "shocking" event.

Someone much smarter than me[and that don't take much!] said, "Socialism is fine … until you run out of other people's money." … huh?

Having 2 economic degrees. We used to say, dying penniless is just good financial planning. You can't take it with you !

Robert le Diable20 Feb 2020 9:12 a.m. PST

Since this thread is drifting like a raft without a sail, can I just add that, according to one way of looking at it, "WW3" occurred between 1939-45, the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic conflict being the first World War. There might even be an argument that this conflict was a Second World War, the Seven Years War being the first. Anyway, as a very wise man once put it, whatever weapons are used to fight the next World War, the one after that will be fought with sticks and stones.

dapeters20 Feb 2020 1:55 p.m. PST

I thought that the seven years war was the unofficial first world war?

AMEN!!! to Legion

The real kicker is that they think that by getting their college tuition paid for, and giving "free" similar passes to others, that they're actually coming out ahead in the game.

Apparently they don't realize that their "free" or "partially subsidized" education paid for by others will end up costing them tons in taxes for the rest of their lives (50 – 80+ years), instead of just a few short years, or decade or so, if they paid for their own education by themselves.

"Free" isn't "FREE".
