Rather than mixing sand and water into the modelling paste, would it be worth using a textured modelling paste? Liquitex does both a natural (medium) and resin (coarse) sand texture. They can still be thinned with water. |

I've done both ways, and if your looking for savings then Bill's method is best in that regard. |
