Nothing worse than a smart Ass, especially when he's right.

I have been getting serious grief on the final version of Maneuver Group Issue 2, probably in retribution as I gave a lot of grief when Alex asked me to review Accelerate and Attack.

Trouble is we have learnt a lot in 11 years of reading, playing and writing rules and the trouble is you get too close to your own rules and read what you think it says not what it actually says. And "Who Knew" that there is a Minus sign that is not the mathematical sign, especially for publishers!

What made is worse, I was called out for using some terms in sort of related but not identical ways. I thought this was well over the top. Then just to rub it in, I was buying terrain and the Catalogue suffered this problem and I had to ring up to clarify. Time to eat humble pie, that hurt ;-).

This is not from a low base, of the original set, one of our experience players said it was awfully written, when I remonstrated his comment was it was awful but probably nowhere near as bad as some rules he played, and he had played a lot!

So my advice is find somebody to proof read who has read lots of rules and preferably written lots. It will be hell, but the product will be a lot better.

Agreed. I read a *LOT* of rule sets and, on average, the writing is pretty dismal.

Only 11 years?

Huh, mere newbies!!

I used to work for a good natured, albeit high-strung, supervisor. I took no end of delight needling him.

One day he says "remember, everybody like someone who is smart, and everybody likes a little a$$, but nobody, and I mean nobody, likes a little smarta $$."

Better than a dumb ass. Doesn't know that he doesn't know stuff.
