That is not true.

Jcfrog11 Feb 2020 4:09 a.m. PST

Only if you and others do not write interesting things in it.
It is true there seems to be less than it used to, but at least you can search inside for the numerous gems that lie in the boards.
Are you of the type who expects all to be free and others to do all for your own satisfaction?
Contribute and share the good stuff. At least here it is not just about putting in ephemeral pictures that will end up in sight a second before the next move of the thumb on those xxxx phones.

16 of the top 20 posts were started by Armand.

I've been busy writing non-gaming books for the past 2 years, so I haven't posted much myself.

I'm not blaming anybody, I'm just stating a fact.

I'd say we need to differentiate between quantity and quality in this discussion. Many posts seem to generate little or no discussion these days. Many get no replies at all.

Jcfrog11 Feb 2020 5:48 a.m. PST

Yes it seems a general disease. Does it mean they are not read//nor the links? No way to know?
It gets from that over superficial nasty waste of time of thumb pushing 100s of "stuff" with telephones. Nothing sticks. Like a compulsive background noise. Not being infected by it, but watching others I always wonder…

ACW was our busiest 'zone' years ago, driven partly by the popularity of Ken Burns' The Civil War (1990).

I think the quality of the posts has gone up and it's easier to scroll through the front page now. Let's face it, Armand scrapes the internet and posts wargaming material from whatever site he comes across. When people have questions about his posts, i.e., the figures in the pictures, who sells them, is this available, what rules are being used, etc., he has no idea and it becomes more of a nuisance than anything else.

"Many posts seem to generate little or no discussion these days. Many get no replies at all."

The hobby at this time is a mile wide and an inch deep. By that I mean that you can have 200 sets of Ancients rules and 50 companies producing figs in a dozen different scales, but finding someone who is playing and/or knowledgeable about a set of rules you're interested in, using the scale and basing system you selected, etc.,, is proving to be a challenge. I'm sure many TMPers belong to a half dozen other forums, Facebook groups, and so on, so getting back here probably more than once a day is an obstacle for some.

Indeed, look at the "hits" not the comments --that is what I do with OGs Adds --That is all that matters to me is how many people looked at it.
Also, aegiscg47 is on the money as to his comment about the very wide and shallow river. It may appear today to be "the golden age" --but everything that glitters is not always good in the long run ??

Honestly, I don't have the time to contribute much. Just work getting in the way of things.

But Tango often posts things I like to look at.

So, I suppose Dear Leader has his own internal advertising section with Tango.

When I hit on a site that contains interesting information I might bookmark it. I might cut and paste the interesting parts into one of the various files I am keeping. If the information might at some future date become relevant to a discussion on this forum I might at that time dig the information out and post it. If it challenged my understanding I might go so far as to start a new topic asking if anyone else had heard of it.

Armand takes a different approach. I am not saying mine is right or his is wrong. However I do regret that he doesn't tell us what his own views are on the articles he posts.

Tango0112 Feb 2020 10:41 p.m. PST

Can you imagine how much time I need to explain my own view of each of mine theads?…

Saying that… I always talk about my own views… when I Know about the subject… or when I want… as you and others did… (smile)

I'm not wikipedia…

I point/share some stuff and always mention a Main page… if you are really interested to need more info… well… began to dig in!… not my job!

Never underestimate the dighing done by others, and compared to the time lost by most of you looking 200 times a day to your telephone, a quick check of his posts/ links, if the subject might grab you, is nothing.
Good he has so much time for it, and ability to do so.

Tango0113 Feb 2020 11:52 a.m. PST

Thanks my friend for your understanding…(smile)

I never knew you could so easily see how many hits a posting has had. But of course it has been there all the time….DURRRRRRRRH

Now it will be fun to compare hits with responses…I do need to get out more.

Tango keeps many boards going. I have long quoted a 60/40 spilt. This between rubbish and absolute treasures from him. I will not say which was which, only that I think his input is improving further.

Tango0115 Feb 2020 11:44 a.m. PST

Thanks to you too my good friend!.
