Highly suspicious and flawed work by a Frenchman who became increasingly conservative and Anglo-centric after WWI. Most of his books are hagiographic works on British notables from Elizabeth I to Pitt, with dubious sourcing.

Placing a schemer, court-intriguer, and man of limited intelligence on such a high pinnacle of (non) existent achievements makes for comedy not history.

This English translation omits the bibliography, which makes it largely worthless, and rather than listing Chastenet's many honorifics, chooses only the British award.
