What's the difference between a gyroplane and a helicopter?

It might be interesting to understand what the function of such a STOL vehicle would be. "Little Nellie" from James Bond seems a bit impractical in the real world, and for observation it seems a tad vulnerable. However short range internal security may work, Its by a long shot cheaper than a small helicopter and not vunerable to mines or IED's but it is a bit exposed to small arms. IDEAS?

If sombody came up with a good idea to use it with. I am sure I could get one done in 1/144, a bit over simplified due to size but I would be OK.

Thanks Tango facinating as usual!

A helicopter's rotor is powered; a gyroplane's isn't.
