About the length of a finger — on average 6-8 centimeters (2-3 inches) — one locust can consume its own weight in food each day, a massive threat to crops and pastures…"

I think that question counts as 'click-bait' for the under educated.

But…. okay Tango, you've got me. How is this relevant to our hobby? Strategically I can see it as being behind population migrations and struggles for food, but that's about it.

It's a good source of info for gaming "Beginning of the End". Now all I need are some Fisher Price vegetables for the giant mutant plants, a bag of fake locusts, and a Peter Graves look-alike mini. Thanks, Tango!

Zephyr107 Feb 2020 3:24 p.m. PST

Yes, they are edible (probably more palatable crunchy than squishy… ;-)
How well they sell will depend much on the marketing…

Locusts are one of many species of insect considered edible, and they are prepared in numerous ways, ranging from dried to smoked to fried. Protein: Locusts, like many insects, are an excellent source of protein.
/
Locusts yield about five times more edible protein per unit of fodder than cattle, and produce lower levels of greenhouse gases in the process. The feed conversion rate of orthopterans is 1.7 kg/kg, while for beef it is typically about 10 kg/kg.

I've seen on TV that many 3d World countries eat BBQ'd, etc., Bugs. Cooked and sold on sticks like big tooth picks. Bugs of all types as well as arachnids …

I guess they don't have much choice in some areas.

Jeffers07 Feb 2020 4:21 p.m. PST

I can wait…

von Schwartz07 Feb 2020 6:44 p.m. PST

They are a REAL Bit**h to skin and clean though!

Just crush them into a lumpy paste and fry …

von Schwartz09 Feb 2020 5:29 p.m. PST

Tried that…too crunchy.

UN Warns Of Famine Caused By Locusts Swarms In Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania And Somalia
That has been going on since I was old enough to watch TV. Many nations and NGOs, etc., continue to send aid in all forms. So whether it's bugs, war, weather, etc. Many nations in that region will continue to be a some sort of crisis. I don't have the solution and it appears nobody else does either. Another problem you can't just keep throwing money at to make it go way …
