Well, almost, sorta… probably not. Watched the sontaran experiment ep 1 on DVD on Blu-ray player on a hd tv. Then decided to watch the second ep using a replaced Blu-ray I got of eBay. My thinking was, they rescanned the 16mm to hd for the Blu-ray and I may as well see the startling difference… Looked about the same to me, only very slightly better (32 inch tv mind, may be more noticeable on a larger set? Not what the show was made for of course.) Then I saw them, numerous times in the episodes, horrizontal lines during the cuts between scenes! This was Sherley (intended) evidence of video editing! This must just be a simple upscale to hd, hense the lack of amazing improvement. I have heard that a lot of location film was lost, guess this was some of it. Pity, being 2 full film eps. Just another letdown of the Blu-ray sets I guess. |

I don't see any notes about it having lost footage of any kind and the "loss" of footage was done by Baker's time. The episode was shot on tape instead of film so that may have something to do with it. |

Yes, it appears so. Though I thought there was still film being used after for a time, effects and location?? |

The article did not say why but hinted it was due to being a location shot and nothing on set. It didn't come right out and SAY that though. |

I have never heard of there being "lost footage", what you see is what got transmitted. They had a number of problems filming on site, from the robot not quite working as expected to Tom Baker breaking his collarbone. That they originally had different plans that didn't work out, oh yes. But there is a difference between "Lost Footage" and "Footage not being usable or never shot". |

"Lost" footage applies to the earlier Doctors. Not so much "lost" as purposely taped over again. The second Doctor seems to have suffered the most from it. |

I mean the original camera film. If that's lost your relying on later generation material, typically the master broadcast video, which can only be upscaled. The titles of the sontaran experiment would have been rescanned film for the DVD/Blu-ray. I assume rescanned in HD for the Blu-rays??? |
