My son just turned 11. He played his first real miniatures game a few weeks ago (a cowboy shootout using Desperado rules). He is a big Star Wars fan, and he said he would play a game like the cowboy game with Star Wars figures if I could find some. So, I have a few WOTC figures somewhere, but I'm not sure where I put them. Ebay prices seem to have gone up on a lot of this range, but I can still find a few decent deals. The big plus is that they are already painted. A big negative is that the special pieces like ATs and speeder bikes cost a lot more than I think the figures are worth.

A couple of Legion starter sets looks like a pretty good deal in terms of figures and "vehicles" but everything need assembled and painted, which is a negative.

What are your thoughts on starting a young 11 year old on Star Wars miniatures gaming?

PM sent Joe, I can give you a squad each of Rebels and Stormtroopers, from the Star Wars Legion core set. free for shipping. They are nice figures, big and easy to paint.

Hot Wheels make speeder and treadbikes that match WOTC figs. Run 4.50t o 5 bucks each. Still in stores.

Try the board game Imperial Assault. Has an adventure mode and a skirmish game mode.

Legion figures are awesome and well supported.

The WOTC figures are noticeably smaller then the Legion figures. They are in scale with the Imperial Assault figures. Just an FYI.

Good info. I will wait until the Legion figures arrive and compare them. That should help me with my decision.

Just played my first game of Legion with my 10 year old son, we had a blast. He grasped the game no problem.

If your son loves the movies, Legion is probably a good way to go.

If you're looking for a skirmish game that isn't squad based WOTC is the way to go. My group prefers non squad games and we all grew up on the old, now defunct extended universe which is where most of WOTC stuff comes from.
