"How's this? In the seminal movie classic "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", the knights' quest takes them to a towering castle facade. Each knight exclaims in turn…Camelot! Camelot! Camelot! A realist, the coconut-clopping patsy named Patsy, played by Terry Gilliam, derisively speaks his only line in the entire movie, "It's only a model." Finally, a realist.

And this? Our local newspaper includes the jottings of a religion columnist – a retired minister – who doesn't write about religion so much as he writes about his doubts about religion. In the spirit of both these viewpoints, I present my derisively-doubting realist approach to ten model railroad myths that are held up to us as the holy grail – but are really only facades…"

Am I the only one who loves model railroad towns, but could care less about the trains?

Not sure that any of those are Modesl train specific issues and they really are not myths. Hefailed to cover the japanese approch or the T Track modular approach which avoides all of the above. a And no one locao and a few carrages idf fine for me. Not a single mention of Digital which may genuinely be a Myth or an evil monster to be actively hared ny many. The Wargame equivanent would be to ask some members if there gloriously painted lead figure were Plastic.

When I was in college I worked at a hobby store that specialized in model RR. I used to buy the building kits as a modelling project, just for fun. I never had any intention of building a layout or operating model trains…

There are some gentlemen north of me, in Gainesville Florida who are…shall we say extravagant, in their hobbies. One fellow has his entire .25 acre backyard laid out with a model railroad world, another has a large gauge going out to his mailbox and then brings it back every day. One fellow has about 8 separate HO scale set-ups, 4' x 8' each, 4 for summer and 4 for winter. Another fellow runs cocktails out to his gazebo on an old Lionel set-up.
