Are the British Indian infantry units (Sikhs, Ghurkas, Punjabis, Guides etc) supposed to be the same morale/firing/melee-ing grade as the British proper? I dont have my copy of the TSATF with me here but would be interested to also hear how people game/rate these Indian units even with other colonial rules? |

There are some conventions as to this, and I invite any other TSATF players to post here. But as a possibly definitive resource--or at least one to consider--would be to use the unit and troop type morale numbers codified in "The Sun Never Sets." These require the use of a single D20 for all tests, and the list is far longer than in the basic rules, including Chinese, Ashanti, Maori, and other other Empire and Native types. What TVAG said. "the Sun Never Sets' is a great resource. Also, see TSATF 20th anniversary edition rule book, XI,F Special national troop types. For example, "The Ghurka", suggests using Egyptian factors on the firing table, British factors on all other tables. In addition, Ghurkas "take no rough terrain penalty when moving, except on square." As has previously been pointed out by others, TSATF is a toolbox which can be very effectively tweaked to portray circumstances and units as desired. |

MiniPigs, the gentlemen above got it spot on. I use the data cards provided with the rules but tweak them to represent any unit with any unit factors I desire based on my research or scenario design. Here's an example:
