Have you ever heard of the Combat Artists Program? In June 1966, the Army created the Vietnam Combat Artists Program. Soldier-artists in this program often reached for paints and canvas instead of weapons. They documented the war using a variety of mediums and created works of art that inspired and provided a visual interpretation of life during wartime… link |

No I had not and this is a great site. Unfortunately it could put you off as it opens with an image of helicopters that would be fine in a kids' comic, or a lurid box cover for a kit. Thank goodness I read on and then followed the various links to see some superb work. Even the comments are well worth reading, indeed quite fascinating at times. How come Tango did not find this first? (I suspect someone will reply…"Don't worry, he will in time") |

I heard about it, probably from Stars and Stripes, in 1971 but this is the first time I've seen any of their work. It's also the first time I realized that this was a program that wasn't peculiar to the Vietnam conflict but had a long history with the US armed forces. LT |
