"When President Trump signed a $738 USD billion defense spending bill on Friday, he officially created the Space Force. It's the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Services, and the first new military service since the Air Force was created in 1947. "Space is the world's newest war-fighting domain," President Trump said during the signing ceremony. "Amid grave threats to our national security, American superiority in space is absolutely vital. And we're leading, but we're not leading by enough. But very shortly we'll be leading by a lot." The idea was widely mocked when it was first floated, providing fodder for late night hosts, newspaper cartoonists and comedy writers. Senior military officials have previously raised concerns about what it will cost, and former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis warned against rushing into creating the force without clearly defined goals.,," Main page link Amicalement Armand |

"It's not about putting military service members in space, it has nothing to do with NASA, it's not about protecting Earth from asteroids or aliens," said Harrison. It is possible that only one of those statements is true! |

Space Force will do exactly what the current component space forces do but will now be organized into its own service branch. For the USAF, the AIr Space Command will be rolled into the new Space Force. Same personnel and equipment doing the same job. Space Force is nothing more than a change in organizational structure. Similar to how the US Air Force was created in 1947 from the component air forces of the Army, Navy, and Marines. |

It should have gone to the US Navy, not the Air Force. |

Do you say Navy because you are thinking science fiction like Star Trek? The reality is US Space Force will NOT have any manned ships in space. By the way, I think Gene Roddenberry had it right. If it really was about large manned space ships than I would agree with the Navy template. |

"'It's not about putting military service members in space, it has nothing to do with NASA, it's not about protecting Earth from asteroids or aliens,' said Harrison". Notice, they didn't say it's not about maintaining our secret space fleet, nor did they deny they may man/woman our secret moon base(s), or "observe" the aliens on the moon and in space. ;-) |

It should have gone to the US Navy, not the Air Force. According to a friend of mine in USArmy Space, the current operational setup most closely matches the Air Tasking Order. I don't expect an organizational change from Air Force to Naval until there are things in space with a crew of more than 12. More precisely, I don't expect that change to happen until after a massive, crew-caused disaster that the navies of the world have not had to deal with since about the 1200s. |

Space Force will do exactly what the current component space forces do but will now be organized into its own service branch. For the USAF, the AIr Space Command will be rolled into the new Space Force. Same personnel and equipment doing the same job. Yep, it should be rolling USArmyy Space and NAVSpace into Space Force so we don't have 3-4 competing satellite and launch programs, competing space policies, etc. The real challenge is politics and bureaucracy -- can Space Force meet the needs of each service branch and coordinate rather than cause chaos? |
