I was wondering why the 2 new groups.io, created to replace the corresponding Yahoo Groups, show basically no activity. There is one for General Quarters naval rules, and one for 1/6000 scale naval minis. Do they have a competitor (besides TMP of course)? groups.io/g/GenQuarters/topics groups.io/g/NavalWargaming6000 MH |

Facebook seems to have a lot of activity for various groups. Yahoo Groups had slowed due to that, which is also why I suspect the replacements have too. |

Could be Facebook, I suppose. But groups.io seems to be better (hierarchically) organized, so each topic has its own identity (like TMP). Facebook, OTOH, gloms everything together in one big stream-of-consciousness mess. |

At one time I was on dozens of Yahoo groups. Yahoo worked hard to kill them off as they were big money losers. As they died out I just stopped going to them. Then I realized I never missed them, so never looked for a replacement. TMP and Facebook do the job for me. |

Some of my new groups.io groups are active, some aren't. They tend to mirror the activity before the move. No idea where the GQ players have all gone though. |

If you are the owner of the group then check the settings for moderation of new members. The default is to have their first post moderated – which the owner/moderators must approve before it appears. Not seeing their post may make members assume that the group isn't working. |

The yahoo groups I used to belong to had a lot of people posting content (ideas for new rules, scenario ideas, new settings, custom minis using wooden blocks {aka. crafties, some of which were really good}). I don't see a lot of that user content anywhere anymore. It's mostly official postings or "look what did" types of posts, which I can never hope to replicate. If it is happening then I can't seem to find it. |

There is a good chance any older stuff from the Yahoo groups is gone. Doing more then switching over users costs a decent hunk of change usually. If there are no new posts either it may be the people just didn't update their membership to the new group and decided to go elsewhere. Switching, even to something dead easy to switch to, involves a good bit of lost membership. |

@Martin Rapier On the topic of where the GQ players have gone, note that there isn't much recent activity on the ODGW website forums either… MH |

As others have said, Facebook. I'm a member of a large number of very active FB wargaming groups. Quite a few people I used to see here and in the defunct Yahoo groups are there. |
