Just gorgeous! How do you store terrain models like that?

Wow. Fantastic table.

jocknroll10 Jan 2020 10:12 a.m. PST

Thanks Gentlemen. A labour of love really.
As for storage Big Red – everything on the table surface is removeable except the hedging/wooded areas. I have a permanent table up to this 3 x 2 strip is currently sitting at the side of that. Longer term storage, I recommend flat not vertical to avoid warp factor.

Still a bit to do with this though. The finishing touches including of course yacht varnishing the Meway itself. That will come last.

Neither my period nor genre but oh my gosh, amazing board! This is exactly the type of set up which would inspire me to give this game a go. Nicely done indeed.

Super, well done!

One question, the buildings are from Brigademodels. What real scale are these buildings? I ask this because your ships are not 1/1200 scale and the buildings look well scaled with your ships so I want to think that those buildings should not be for 1/1200

jocknroll11 Jan 2020 9:10 a.m. PST

I agree Julian. I have experimented with buildings from Brigade and Irregular. I believe 1/1200 is 2mm scale and 1/2400 is 1mm scale. These building are allegedly 2mm scale ie 1/1200. To me, at that level of compression, they fit very well with 1mm. Irregular produce 2mm figures and those fit well in units on a big landscape but are probably out of scale for the 1/2400 ships.

I hope that answer is not confusing but to my knowledge no one produces 1mm scale buildings anyway or for than matter 1mm scale figures all though I have seen Andy Callan's hair roller regiments which are very tiny.

justBill11 Jan 2020 9:40 a.m. PST

Magnificent!

ModelJShip11 Jan 2020 9:52 a.m. PST

Well, it is a success to increase the size of the buildings a little because looks much better. That brand works very well with your ships.

I wanted to experiment with a 'sea board' before I finally varnish the river. Build that today. Only took me abou 90 minutes to paint and varnish 4 x 2 feet. Will coat it twice again and then decide whether I varnish the river. Think I will though.

Seeing work this good just makes me love 6mm scale!!…wait is this 6mm or 3mm? Either way it's amazing!

N Drury15 Jan 2020 4:34 a.m. PST

Navwar do a few 1/3000 dockside buildings, these are not much smaller than the Irregular 2mm. Irregular 2mm tend to be noticeably smaller than Brigade which are described as 1/1000.

jocknroll16 Jan 2020 11:00 a.m. PST

I believe the ships are 1mm scale? 1/2400. Buildings 2mm but fit very well as mentioned a couple of posts up

1/1200 scale would actually be 1.5mm (meaning people are 1.5mm tall), and 1/2400 would be half that… unbearably small.

I have at least one of nearly every Irregular 2mm terrain piece, and I find some of them are right about 1/1200 scale, a few are more like 1/2000 scale, and some are just generic enough to be anything from 1/3000 to 1/1000.

The Brigade miniatures seem more true to scale, but clearly, they look just fine alongside 1/2400 ships. We have photographic evidence of size compatibility right in this very thread. grin

I thought so but sometimes you need second, third and subsequent opinions to validate. We work in isolation most of the time and perspective must be maintained.
Appreciated YA!

StarCruiser17 Jan 2020 8:33 a.m. PST

That looks so good – I'd be afraid to use it to actually play a game!

jocknroll18 Jan 2020 11:45 a.m. PST

Starcruiser, it was built for one purpose only – to game on it. It is the first of three or four boards, I haven't
decided – all representing key stretches of the River Medway in Kent in June 1667. The Royal Navy's darkest hour. A fascinating minim campaign.

Oh that's lovely!

whitejamest21 Jan 2020 1:44 p.m. PST

This is easily one of the best looking gaming boards I've ever seen.

jocknroll21 Jan 2020 4:14 p.m. PST

Thanks again. I have just completed the building of the second board which I'll post picture of soon. It is the adjacent down river stretch – Upnor to Cockham. Plaster just drying tonight. Very excited that I am on to the next step.

jocknroll22 Jan 2020 10:35 a.m. PST

as promised, but the sexier shots are to come..
