Ouch. In their defense, though, they are probably dim witted and didn't realize it was a burial mound. Who knew Wales had red necks? |

I'm not feeling the outrage. Looks like a small hill to me and perfect for a 4 wheeler tummy flutter. Them are good! If it is so important and has been there for 3000-4000 years… seems long enough for someone to have at least put a fence around it or somthin. Give the kids a break. |

I work in the heritage sector in Wales (as an archaeologist) and people usually know what they are doing but are so moronic they just don't care. Off roaders do tend towards the moronic in my experience. I did a job a few months ago on a big hillfort near Newport, (Twmbarlwm) which also has the remains of a medieval motte. The motte and the hill fort defences were being used as berms for off road motorbikes which had done massive damage. Deliberate damage to a scheduled ancient monument in the UK is illegal and can be punished with hefty fines or imprisonment. |

I would imagine that the damage is limited to the top surface. It would have to go a lot deeper to damage the archaeology ? |

@Dagwood There isn't really any post construction soil build up on these barrows. Also the form of the structure can be compromised by things like ruts or sheep scrapes or animal burrows, which can accelerate erosion. |

I read the article. It is an outrage. I hope they catch the guilty. |
