That figure is very nicely done!! I'm off and on reading a three volume biographical novel about the Marshall, titled William Marshall: Guardian of England by Richard Woodman. I bought it as a Kindle e-publication. I think you have captured his older visage very well here.

The red lion on a yellow background looks much more Scottish than English.

The green section sort of disappears from view and the yellow stands out more. I think the yellow should be much more like linen or even white.

The Knight Who Saved England: William Marshal and the French Invasion, 1217 By Richard Brooks is also well worth reading.

It's is also available on Kindle.

But that's how his coat of arms is.

Gunfreak has it right, I've never seen it with white instead of yellow.

I still think, on first glance that it looks Scottish.

Ok this is a guess but , from the pictures the yellow appears to have degraded over time, depends what the pigment was used, nice figure and nicely painted. Yellow if I remember rightly represented Gold in Heraldy. Robert the Royal arms of Scotland-used a similar Lion Rampart and this could be the Scottish connection.

Nice job, Gunfreak. I like the 'grizzled veteran'
look.

I thought the mathew paris one would turn up. Does look very pale although Paris described his arms as "Party per pale or and vert, a lion rampant gules" so Gold(Yellow) and green.
He also Shows the arms of Otto IV, which, in the Chronica Major where the yellow has similar White look to it

picture

Although, he, Paris does also reckon he could have carried different Arms from the red and green etc Version and in he has a pic titeled;
Matthew Paris's Chronica Major, Marshal unhorses Baldwin de Guisnes.

I still like the one as shown at the top of the thread.
