"There were a lot of interesting video games that came out in 2019, with deep and complex stories that are begging for the big screen. Of course, seems like even the popularity of shows like The Witcher might not be enough to break the video game movie curse…but could one of 2019's games finally succeed? Let us know in the comments what video game from 2019 you think would make a cool film adaptation in the near future. My easy money is on Control, which already plays like a movie, but you've got other outstanding games like Outer Wilds (and the similarly titled Outer Worlds), Neo Cab, and A Plague Tale: Innocence. Plus, there's always Untitled Goose Game. I'm not quite sure what could be made from that, but I'm dying to find out…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

None. Games have multiple outcomes; stories have a single logical ending. If you find a way around that, start with CHESS: the Motion Picture and benefit from name recognition. |

Has there every been a well made movie based on a video game? I don't know the answer to that. |

Games run the gamut from having almost zero story to having very developed stories. Early games had practically no story- Blast the Invaders, Save the Princess and so on. The attraction is in the experience of playing the game, not the story. This is why making a Sonic the Hedgehog movie is such an ill-conceived idea (whether Sonic looks creepy or not). In recent years tech has developed so that developers are not limited so much by the medium. So you get more narrative driven games, to the point where the story might be interesting but the gameplay not so much- the so called "walking simulator" like "Everybody's gone to the Rapture". Many game-makers seem like they want to make movies (and that's not to say they'd make good movies). I can't happily sit through interminable Kojima cut-scenes, I want to play, not watch. As of now there's not been a great or even good game movie, but its not an impossible concept. "The last of us" could be a great film, but why bother since the game told the story well (would bring it to a wider audience I suppose)? I am currently playing "Control" and I thought it would work as a Netflix type long form Sci-fi show. Not necessarily the story of the game, but another story told in that universe. Georg Rockall-Schmidt has a good analysis of the problem. YouTube link |

CHESS: the Motion Picture imdb.com/list/ls008261403 but really this link is #1! I got a new release of Pong for my phone last year. Pong. Pong the movie. |
