My wife just got a post from Better Homes & Gardens all about the must have plants for next year. I haven't seen any comparable speculation about the hot game or period for 2020. Any guesses, hopes, thoughts? Why is that likely to take off in 2020?

I'm still waiting for the December issue of Better Games & Minis. There's a 2nd edition of Frostgrave coming out next year (I think).

Hmmm. Can someone remind me what the hot game or period was this year? Or in 2018?

I could maybe see Infinity getting a boost on the back of Cyberpunk 2077.

Or a standalone Cyberpunk game, even?

Star Wars (especially ship-gaming!) could get a boost?

Maybe even fantasy gaming in the wake of The Witcher series?

I hear War of Jenkin's Ear is going to be BIG next year…

Damon.

Game with Moose in them.

I think the numbers "2" and "0" are going to see a lot of use next year.

Spooner612 Dec 2019 1:19 p.m. PST

I would like to see Big Battles with Metal figures make a come back, a change from skirmish gaming with plastic figures.

I'd like to see a "Tango down" game: two sides struggle to either save or stop Armand from getting across the board to make a post.

Not much on the horizon for historicals.

The new Lord of the Rings sequel series from Amazon could renew interest in LOTRO gaming when it launches in 2020-2021, along with their new MMO on-line game.

In terms of movie inspirations, the most likely candidate would be Dune, which doesn't release till Dec. 2020. Anyone for painting up a few legions of Sardaukar?

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP12 Dec 2019 3:16 p.m. PST

No good, Chris. Inevitably, there will be official Sardaukar figures, modelled after something in the movie and nothing in the book, and they'll be--my guess is 37mm or some such, so that no existing figures can be used. Or they can do the full Star Wars and issue two lines of miniatures not compatible with one another. Then in two years the contract will expire, the castings won't be available and the rules will be out of print.

Of all the stupid things we do to ourselves, falling for one franchise game after another is far and away the record-holder. We ought to form support groups. If we can't stop indulging in the behavior, we could at least hold lotteries: one gamer gets enough figures for a game and two others get gift certificates for some other franchise.

My belly and butt, too much good food.

Ditto to 79th PA. Two companies now Kickstarting. These are for rules with big numbers, but should give DBA a shot in the arm for Big Battles.

40mm Great Northern War.

The profits of Warlord Games and Games Workshop?

mildbill13 Dec 2019 4:27 p.m. PST

old skool, and true 25mm so everyone under 50 have to buy more figures. (I kid, I kid!)

KSmyth13 Dec 2019 10:16 p.m. PST

Daniel Mersey of Lion Rampant and all the offshoots of that system announced a big battle set of rules for the Hundred Years War is coming out after the first of the year. I'm excited to see a period specific set of rules for this, my most obsessed over conflict.

Jeffers14 Dec 2019 6:53 a.m. PST

My credit card bill and Playmobil profits, if my daughter's Santa list is honoured in full.

I do hope mildbill is right, though!

UshCha14 Dec 2019 8:12 a.m. PST

My rules, they were great for the last 10 years and will be a bit better for next year. Why would you want more stuff, that just wastes money? Changing ruls is like changing clothes when they are not worn, out just fasion and a bit pointless. We are hoby folk not open check books for folk to demand money from. We do not need or want anything "new" and pointless.
