From what I have read, been told, the many various forces in the Mid East, Africa, and A'stan are not that "skilled" basic soldier skills, fieldcraft, etc. What they have going from them is numbers and willingness to die for their religion, etc.
Along with the fact we/the West don't use as much of our firepower[Non-WMDs] as we could for fear of CD.
Even with that the enemies' losses are very high. And non-combatant losses are kept as low as possible. But obviously they still occur. With the enemies' predilection to hide/move among civilians, hide behind civilians/use as human shields/hostages, etc.
I've said this before if allowed to use all our firepower[Non-WMDs] their be places on the battlefield would look like the dark side of the moon. More so than many places do already in some cases.
You couldn't knock them back into the stone age, as many were there or close to it before the first round was fired …
