Friday night through Saturday morning the Trail Life Troop I mentor had a game night lock-in.

Often I will have a game table set up for the boys to try wargaming, this year I had 3 other adults all interested in trying their hand (all younger than me). Each of them took a brigade and so did I – they all loved it and one even stayed 2 hours later than he had intended.

With Saturday being the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the boys asked me to do a series of short movie clips and discussions. So I used Tora Tora Tora as the basis and we had some good discussion on the history, various values and character issues. (Surprising to me several dads hadn't seen it.

The food and snacks were good as was the fellowship time both young and older.

Except for the lack of sleep, a good night was had by all.

Have you ever done anything like this?

D huh?

C.

I do applaud your efforts & offer respect. It's not a thing for everyone, though. I don't think I'd have the patience.

A.M (M being roughly half of A-Z, or A.5, if you prefer) –

I have facilitated DOM and SOM in bringing wargames to their youth-activity game-night lock-ins. Both with lifelong playing, mentoring, encouraging and by giving them needed minis and terrain as well as helping craft appropriate scenarios for said events.

But I have never run one myself. The Powers That Be when I did such volunteering were never keen on the activity, and since I run things and make decisions for a living, I have always reveled in being a faceless cog in an uncaring machine when I volunteer. (I may be that at work too, just in a slightly different way.)

No. But what is a TrailmLife Troop? What is DOM, SOM? Where are there opportunities to try this?
