"It can often seem as though nations are permanent fixtures on the landscape, immovable, unchangeable, and enduring. If history has taught us one thing, it's that nations are perfectly capable of disappearing. A number of top countries disappeared in the 20th century alone, including nations such as Astro-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and superpower U.S.S.R. Anyone expecting the 21st century to be any kinder is liable to be surprised. Here are some well known nations that (probably) won't exist in 2115." YouTube link Amicalement Armand

I expect that the Illuminati will by then have achieved their long-term plan of abolition of the nation-state and establishment of a unified world government, just in time for the official arrival of the gray aliens and the commencement of negotiations to join the celestial empire. Did I miss anything? |

But neither Austro-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire nor the USSR were nations, though they were states. Austria, Hungary, Turkey and Russia, which were nations, are still with us. Getting rid of a nation is much trickier than abolishing a state. Nor does this strike me as a suitable venue for discussing what actual nation or nations might not have another 81 years. |

I object to Sealand going. It will just submerge and work from there… That said, once the temperatures start rising the sea level is bound to hit 60m rather then the 2 necessary to sink Kiribati and the Netherlands. Hopefully I am no longer around then… |

Another CATASTROPHIC, MAN CAUSED, GLOBAL, CLIMATE CHANGE story? I'll get my manure fork. Sealand?!?! seriously? Also when did the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Soviet Union become "Nations". They were loose amalgamations of individual "states" and tribes held together by a larger, and more powerful, central authority?
