Not content to leave well enough alone, I added a grander gatehouse to the commercially purchased Vauban fortress I painted for a friend, which was originally designed by Ian Weekley. I used an arch from the Kobblstone Miniatures Mediterranean collection of model buildings. Sadly Kobblestone is not currently selling their stuff, but hopefully they will get back into business some day. For anyone interested, here's a LINK to the post I just put on my blog, and thanks in advance should you choose to visit: link And of course, here's a few pics to whet your whistle, so to speak… The inspiration that pushed me to find something grander:

Thanks everyone, I sincerely appreciate the positive feedback! I actually went back to do a couple more coats of paint on the new gatehouse in an effort to lighten its color and make it a closer match for the rest of the fort. I think despite being painted with the exact same colors it looked darker because of its rougher stucco texture as opposed to the smooth brickwork of the fort sections. It's no different other than being a bit lighter, but since I'm painting it for a friend I felt I should at least attempt to make it a better match, and happy to say I think did that. I'll come back and post a pic in the near future… |
