It's been an age since I last posted on this forum so thought it time I did so for anyone interested in my blogs. Please find the following link to my latest build for the battle for Quebec on the Plains of Abraham 1759. link

Beautiful job! They are Front Rank, correct? |
Big Red | 25 Nov 2019 9:33 a.m. PST |
I believe they are Crusader figures and very nicely painted indeed! The flag tassels/toppers look like Front Rank. |

Thanks everyone for your support. Yes Big Red – you are 100% correct. The Crusader figures are great but as gavandjosh02 pointed out, the ensigns are really quite odd. Even if I'd remembered to sculpt better hands after fixing the poles, I'm not at all sure about the positioning and the way the figures are sculpted there's no changing them. |

Lovely work! But as one of the flags is the Colonel's, wouldn't it make this the First Battalion? Oh, silly me. Is this your 2nd French battalion – Regiment Bearn? |

Mollinary, I really don't know. So many sources provide both colours for this battalion. I don't have the information (yet) about if they would have had their own colonel's colour and the only reason I speculate they may have is their detachment to Canada. Is the Colonel's colour also mean to represent the King? If they were never to take the field with their respective first battalions of the regiment, might they not have a Colonel's colour to properly represent the colonel and the regiment on active service. I have several questions and no answers. |

Hi UG, By the SYW it was customary for each battalion of. french regiment to carry two colours, following the issue of new regulations in 1749. The first Battalion carried the Colonel's colour and one ‘ordonnance' colour, the other battalions each carried two ‘ordonnance' colours. So if the first battalion of Bearn remained in France with the colonel, then the second battalion in Canada would only carry ordonnance colours. Sorry! This would also apply to any other 2nd, 3rd or 4th battalions of other regiments. Hope this is helpful. I have a copy Pierre Charrie's masterful book (in French) Drapeaux et Etendards du Roi which covers the 17th and 18th centuries in some detail, so if you have more questions, I may be able to help. |

Mollinary, Understood and thanks for the information. Does your source indicate if or how the ordinance colours might differ from each other? |
Mollinary | 28 Nov 2019 2:05 a.m. PST |
Hi again UG, All the ordonnance colours within a regiment are identical. |

Well I've combed the internet sources for a fall-back position on this but I have to concede there's just no use for my Colonel's standard bearer. In doing so I've learnt a lot about the history of drapeaux in Canada over the period for both regular regiments and local troops before and during the FIW. Thank goodness I've yet to texture the base – that would have made life difficult. I'll simply have to prize him off and replace with another fusilier -easy. Many thanks M. Accuracy is a bit of a thing for me and I had totally missed that one. |

You are welcome, but I am sorry to have caused you trouble. Flags are a bit of thing of mine, as you might have guessed! Good luck with the rest of your project. |
