"I played Dirtside quite a bit in the 1990s and even put on a display game for it at Salute one year. I much preferred it at the time to the Epic rules which were around. Though when Epic40000 was released I did start playing those rules for a while.

Dirtside II is a rules system for playing combined-arms ground combat with miniatures in a science-fictions setting…."

Epic with all it's iterations, IMO needed some work and we did that to make AT/CT/SM1 a better game. Only adding things from the other versions if needed.

The first thing we did with SM1 was go to Unit Activation over IGOUGO. We also tired the DS rules they had a lot of good things in there are well. But in the end we kept our hybrid SM1 rules.

That is what we like and as many can see 40K/Epic is Fantasy sent in the far future. DS and others were actually Sci-Fi. We turned Epic into "combined-arms ground combat with miniatures in a science-fictions setting…." … That is again the way we like it …
