"Kirk and Spock may be coming back to the big screen and from a very exciting filmmaker too.

Deadline reports that Noah Hawley, who recently made FX's Legion and Fargo, as well as feature film Lucy in the Sky, is in "final talks" to write and direct a new Star Trek film for Paramount. It would be the fourth in the J.J. Abrams franchise reboot that stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and others. Abrams will produce…"

Armand, these people are obviously confused. There may be another Star Trek movie--ask me if I care--but Star Trek 4 was filmed and released many years ago.

I have seen references to the "Elvis curse" in regard to the many backlot settings whose last use was a Presley movie. Perhaps it's time to talk of the "Abrams curse" from which a franchise never really recovers.

Honest question robert piepenbrink, why do you feel the need to dump on every Star Wars or Star Trek post with your condescending comments? This entire site already knows you don't like the directions either franchise is going, why continue to beat a dead horse? What's your end game?

Especially when you say "ask me if I care". I just don't get it, so please enlighten me.

I believe the crux of the issue is that the entire "reboot" (that JarJar Abrams refuses to admit is a reboot) has been rather lackluster in quality…

Doesn't really matter if it makes a bit of money over the short haul – it's mostly forgettable schlock now – overwritten with LenFlare (tm) and ShakeyCam (tm).

Fair question, Ivor.

I don't seek them out. I don't go to Disney or Paramount sites to kvetch. I'd don't go to Star Wars and Star Trek blogs to comment, or trash them on Youtube. but they do keep showing up on TMP even when, as in this and the Star Wars character posters bit, they seem to have no relationship to miniatures. I figure when people post non-miniatures advertising as TMP posts, they deserve a certain amount of flack. (Sorry Armand, but it's true.)

And they're messing with something I love. I own the first two seasons of classic Trek, several movies and the original Star Wars films. My road music often includes themes from both and my bookshelves include spin-off books.

But now the suits at Paramount and Disney, in their desperate simultaneous pursuit of corporate profit and leftist propaganda, are going out of their way to deface them and not even troubling to do much by way of story-telling. If the Rijksmuseum repainted The Night Watch to make it more accessible--a few female African warriors in the unit, and perhaps an Imperial Storm Trooper for the kids--and couldn't even get the shading and proportions right, someone would say something. When my church rewrites classic hymns to make an "inclusive" version, and the result no longer scans, they get sniped at. Should these be different?

Or do we only want to say positive things on TMP? (And since when are Disney and Paramount TMP advertisers?)

I see it as a genre and subject matter that is part of miniature gaming because it is what fuels the imagination to create the new worlds presented in cinema, novels, comic books, etc. Without those things, we would be stuck in historical re-enactments and scenarios, which I have no interest in whatsoever.

The post was in the proper category. The Star Wars posters thread is more limited in scope, but there are arguments for its inclusion, too.

As far as "only say<ing> positive things" goes, it's one thing to state an opinion, but to use a forum or any other part of the internet to continually state disgruntlement with a subject is a waste of effort. People have differing opinions and will post what interests them and that they believe may interest others.

I understand they are talking about Movie Nr 4 of the new "Star Trek"…

So ultimately your hate comes from the "messing" of something you love. It has changed and you don't like the fact that it's changed.

Everything you wrote after that, especially my favorite "leftist propaganda", tells me everything I could ever want to know about you and your thought process, so I won't dissect it further. Do know that I've said a prayer that your church songs stay the same though.

I wish you nothing but the best and a long and healthy life as you continue to watch the world change around you.

*disappointing you don't own the original Star Trek season 3*

StarCruiser23 Nov 2019 9:28 a.m. PST

ST Season 3 still had a few wonderful episodes – yes fewer than Season 1 and 2 but then…?

The H Man24 Nov 2019 4:50 p.m. PST

No. Its good someone will stand up for what they believe in, at least in this case.

I have often called tv stations pointing out errors in Trek/Wars advertising as the companies continue their attempts to replace art/film history with modern cgi.The sad part being people seem to believe the lies they are told and the stations don't care. You can't even buy the original Star Wars trilogy in the shops these days. No wonder kids (and adults) are having issues if they are being told modern gci was common in the 60s. Not to mention the slap in the face to the designers, craftsmen, so on who were involved in the original effects. The original Enterprise model is good enough to hang in the air and space museum, but not good enough for TV??? I would doubt as much would be happening re space at the moment without it.

So on…

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP24 Nov 2019 6:04 p.m. PST

No, Ivor--and thanks for your prayers--but end of Season 2 was about right. Any further and I'd have wound up with the "nature vs nurture" episode that "proved" all differences were environmental and the Nye Commission in fictional format with Federation and Klingons locked into perpetual battle, not to mention "Spock's Brain." There was good Trek on TV after that--even into the Next Generation era: I have fond memories of "House of Quark" "Menage a Trois" and "Yesterday's Enterprise" among others. But the ratio shifted, and I get chary of buying a season of TV for two episodes.

Not sure a long life is a good thing at this stage. Interesting times.

Hmpf. And you missed half the criticism. I find propaganda for causes I disagree with annoying, but it won' stop me from reading or watching by itself. I've got books on the shelves from outright Communists. But they're well-written books. When promotion of the cause gets in the way of good story-telling--or at any event, when I appreciate neither theme nor story, it's time to drop out. Consistently in recent years, when either Star Wars or Star Trek are criticized for story, the defenders have replied by ad hominem attacks based on the critics' (presumed) politics. I think they do this because they can't defend the work as good story-telling, but in any event, why should I remain silent when being slandered
