FYI, several past and present (and possibly future) HMGS Presidents (along with some surprise special guests) will sit down for a Question and Answer session on Saturday afternoon at the HMGS War College at Fall In 2019.

Topics to be discussed include the history of HMGS, its role in the hobby and the future of historical wargaming.

Hope to see you there.

HMGS thinks historical wargaming has a future?

Northern Monkey12 Nov 2019 2:34 p.m. PST

Why not? Lots of youngsters at U.K. and European shows. The future looks great over here. Maybe negative comments like that don't help spread the word?

Northern Monkey

Well Said!

Yes, I agree well said Northern Monkey. If you hate the hobby that much and always paint the hobby with doom and gloom from your posts get out.

To borrow from '80's Classic Rock, the wargaming future's so bright, HMGS members gotta wear shades.

First to name the band correctly wins a prize to be determined.

Bound to be a rather short seminar all the same!

Bound to be a rather short seminar all the same!

You won't know unless you show up.

47Ronin12 Nov 2019 10:15 p.m. PST

We have a winner!

Well done, Teppsta. Given your location, I take it you will not be at Fall In.

If not, I will still figure out an appropriate prize.

Maybe negative comments like that ……..

If you hate the hobby that much and always paint the hobby with doom and gloom from your posts get out.

Jeez, a little projection there, guys. Do you really think that's a fair assessment of what Robert wrote?

Bowman13 Nov 2019 8:31 a.m. PST

Also, hate to say this but, the Timbuk 3 song "The Futures So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades" is not meant to be an upbeat song. The title is ironic.

47Ronin13 Nov 2019 8:55 a.m. PST

You know your Classic Rock, Bowman.

The song has an interesting backstory.

I'd have thought sure by now someone would have posted or asked which 3 presidents. Curious.

47Ronin13 Nov 2019 9:26 a.m. PST

The current HMGS President, plus the two most recent former Presidents, have agreed to appear. There may also be some surprise special guests from HMGS.

Yes, the idea was inspired by the "Three Tenors" if you know your opera.

Since there is no HMGS membership meeting at Fall In, it seemed like a good time for such a seminar.

Hope to see you there.

If they try to do Nessun Dorma, PLEASE somebody Youtube it.

I'm actually expecting a re-enactment of a scene at Sparks Steakhouse in December 1985.

Beware guys wearing matching rain coats and fur hats…

Funny guys.

Pre-convention humor at its best.

Some of us have actually been there (Sparks) and lived.

Less risky than the Hall Pig at The Host.

P.S.--I like Nessun Dorma.

Walking Sailor13 Nov 2019 10:25 p.m. PST

inspired by the "Three Tenors" if you know your opera.
If they try to do Nessun Dorma
and when did Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns and Ronan Tynan try to sing that?.

"Yes, the idea was inspired by the "Three Tenors" if you know your opera."

This organization is ripe for a mockumentary along the lines of 'Best In Show.'

WarWizard14 Nov 2019 6:41 a.m. PST

The best version of Nessun Dorma is by Jackie Evancho

For the musically inclined on Friday night at Valley Forge this weekend:

Dueling Pianos at The Vault at 8pm--No Cover.
Karaoke at Valley Tavern at 9pm.
DJ Patrice McBride at the Center Bar on the Casino floor from 9pm to 2am.

Maybe they have "Men of Harlech" on their playlist.

Enjoy the convention.
