I ain't gonna lie. The new blood pressure meds are making for some serious weird dreams at night, That said, I could have sworn I read somewhere that Little Wars was moving back to St Charles due to booking issues at the current location in Lombard. Is this true, or should I double the dose, or should I get off the stuff? Thanks in advance!

I heard something about moving Pheasant Grove or something? I don't live in the state so not sure I'm even naming a place.

I heard the same thing. It doesnt take affect until 2021 im told. I guess we are in the big hall attached to the hotel this time so we dont have to fight for parking or brave the 8 lane highway

Chuck is correct. 2020 will be at the Westin in Lombard. New management at the Westin is prompting the move to the Pheasant Run resort. Never been there, so not sure what to expect.

It was in the newsletter sent to all members via email a month ago.

It is confirmed, for 2021 we will be at the convention center at Pheasant Run. We will have larger venue, and able to incorporate additional vendors. We will get a room rate closer to the date.

So is it actually in the convention center itself, or in that place across the street?

kcabai11 Nov 2019 8:56 a.m. PST

It is in the convention center itself, attached to the hotel. The place across the street has been torn down for a car dealership.

A recent article in a local paper reported the current owners are trying to sell the resort.

The place was pretty run down when HMGS Midwest moved to the Westin in Lombard, IL. Hopefully the new owners will put some money in the place before 2021. I only stayed in the resort for one Little Wars and I was glad to get a room in the place across the street for the remaining time the convention was there.

This cannot possibly end well. Pheasant Run up for auction?

With the initial asking price of the property, set too high, they have gone to auction. While the future is unclear, we will have to wait and see. I am curious RedLion, as a former BOD member are you offering to join our Contingency Site-Search Committee, or are you just muckraking?

Well, it looks like Pheasant Run is actually closing it's doors. I'm not trying to troll but it looks like we need to review options. I'm in Iowa and so probably not real useful on this.

For the last two days we have been talking to the Property's GM. This situation is as follows. There are three potential buyers remaining. Their future plans for the property are unknown. There is a plan to cease resort operations as of March 1st. This still may or may not happen, and is also dependent on the sale and intentions of the buyer.

HMGS-Midwest conducted a location search last year, before we selected the Pheasant Run. We have resumed that search, and have already identified a potential back up location. It would be our preference to remain at the Pheasant Run site.

If you have any questions or would like to help, please contact me.

Kevin,

FYI, HMGS East went through the same thing a few years ago when the Host went to auction.

Even though things worked out (so far), at the time it was not a pleasant experience for those in charge at East.

Good luck.

P.S.--Feel free to reach out to your contacts at East. They might be able to give you the benefit of their experience.

Kevin-

Good to hear you ha e a back-up. I'll do what I can from here. We can talk at Little Wars in a couple of months.

shthar21 Feb 2020 10:36 p.m. PST

We can go to the Harry Carey steakhouse one last time, I guess.

There has been some question to the site of Little Wars for 2021. With the sale of the Pheasant Run Mega Center a strong possibility and turmoil involved with the auction, we have been forced to consider different options. Over the past few weeks we have revisited 32 other potential locations. As I write this, I am pleased to announce that your new Board has been able to negotiate a return to the Lombard Westin, for 2021 and beyond.

Thrilled to hear that news! We attended the past two years, with zero complaints. IMHO Lombard Westin has been a great venue for Little Wars.

Rich Bliss27 Feb 2020 7:42 a.m. PST

Kevin-

That's the best news I could get. It's my favorite Little Wars venue by far.

Thank you!

kcabai28 Feb 2020 12:58 p.m. PST

Thanks Rich, looking forward to catching up with you.

I couldn't have been happier when I heard the news. It is a great location with many distractions close by for the family. I look forward to many years there!
