Thought I'd try and consolidate my future scrap-build stuff in a single thread since I'm starting to loose track. Can in no way shape or form promise the same level of genius that is Insomniac Space Dwarf army thread, but hopefully someone might find the odd bit of inspiration.

First up is a cargo flat bed, not the most interesting build, but every army needs its logistics tail. Built from one half of kids toy folding mobile phone, a piece of not-Duplo and sundry odds and ends. Should probably have put more work into the cab as its a bit rough and ready around the bottom.

Naked shots…

Base coat…

I see mechs from souldark.ru. How are they?

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa03 Nov 2019 6:12 a.m. PST

More expensive than on the website, apparently…! Very similar to Robogear in terms of construction design, so very simplistic, but easy to assemble and take paint well enough. Plastic is poor quality, but not as terrible as Tehnologs ZOD mechs. Parts are probably interchangeable to a degree, but haven't tried that. Big ones just shy of 9cm and the small one is 6.5cm.

On with the scrap builds.

Yet Another use of a kids plastic walkie talkie – I think I've pretty much run out of these now! I set out to build an MLRS-type system but the first attempt at the actually launcher was a bust. The MLRS/ADATs turret it now has was actually built for something else, but was way to big. The base of it is the caps from two bought bottles of water (different designs) and a couple of kids pen tops pinned together with a cocktail stick

Very sharp.

A couple of shots of stuff in development…

Okay this is what the turret from the MLRS vehicle was originally for – part inspired by Brigade Models Elliot Grav Sled and the Reaver rocket-sled-thing at the start of Serenity. Body is a plastic toy remote control, with a couple of pen tops, a medicine spoon canopy, three Laserburn robo turrets, a wooden hemisphere and a spare Old Crow barrel.

Always good to see others scratch builds, I like the last one.

Thanks, I've been interested in what use the bodies of old remote controls could be put to being hard plastic and sometimes having interesting shapes. The toy was too good a shape to miss, but unlike a real one the plastic isn't hard and the quality of its finish isn't good – it came off a kid's magazine.

Things to do with boxes when you're bored…

The hull of these troop crawlers is made from leftover display cases from 1:144 tanks – who said wargamers don't use 1:144! Turrets from the bits box. The wheels are bottle caps with chopped up dowel of roughly the right diameter glued inside. A bit shonky and prone to breakage, but I swore off using large quantities of filler. I thought I'd come up with an original usage, but while searching back through TMP for something I found a posting by Runelord of one of his scratch-built vehicles using the self same things as wheels. I decided to avoid trying to build some form of obvious driver position on the front and opted for making them look like they have AI drivers – but a human still runs the gun-turret.

They are quite large though, the 3D print BMP-1 is 1:100 – but I kind of justify this by saying they are intended for moving power armour around (or an entire platoon)!

A bit of tinkering over the Christmas period working on some foot soldiers and support drones. The infantry are SW Risk Clones with the frankly terrible head swapped out for a Peter Pig Toro head and a backpack added. I've attempted to paint these guys a couple of times and neither really worked out. The drone was a minor epiphany when I realised I had a whole bunch of old Airfix Sheridan road wheels left over from the previous project – just added some sprue and some plastic rod. They scale way better than my previous attempts at 15mm drones. The little sensor/comm beacon is a piece of a Crayola twistable and a couple of pins.

Finally slapped some paint on the cargo hauler and the MLRS.

Couple of shots of the infantry and supporting drones amongst the classic alien pasta vegetation. Happy with how they turned out. Though not totally sure they really justify purchased heads economically speaking. Small beads might have worked as globular helmets. Backpacks are odds and ends from the bits box.

And put some paint on the rocket sled

Finished the first two troop crawlers

Also fabricated some flight packs for the infantry – the turbines are I think HO/OO scale railway lamps from the deep depths of my bits box

Something a bit different – a comms block house. Polystyrene, a CD, a skim of Polyfilla 'Smoothover' and some plastic bits from the bottomless box of random bits of plastic. Still WiP as I need to tone the basing colour which at the moment is artists yellow ochre acrylic straight from tube and its a bit lurid.

Not really a 'scrap build', but rather something knocked together entirely from the spares box. Would have preferred a slightly more saucer-like turret and smaller skirts.

The last pic looks like the Heavy Tank from OGRE/GEV
