Should the sword knot of the Cacadores be black or green? |

Superb picture by Denis Dighton (1791-1827) of the Portuguese Army can be found in the Royal Collection: 4th Cacadores, 1812 link This shows dark green. The picture is also reproduced in "Os Uniformes Portuguese na Guerra Peninsular" by Pedro Soares Branco Ribeiro's postcards – an excellent source for Portuguese uniforms – has various Cacadores but unfortunately they shows only their fronts. Oops scrub that last answer as on closer inspection the dark green cord is being used for the powder flask. Various sources (including Osprey, Napoleonic Association) are silent on sword knot colour. |

Thank you. For now I've painted them black unless some reference proves me wrong. On 18mm figures it's not really the end of the world if I'm wrong, they are such small details. |
