Betheda can't stop screwing up the fallout franchise. Fallout 4 was very disappointing and fallout 76 can be only be described as; travesty, horror, crime against humanity. The latest shenanigans from Bethesda is 100 dollar yearly subscription to have private serves and endless storage of scraps. Only that the servers aren't private and the scraps disappear.

Anyway Obsidian who made the only good FPS era fallout (new Vegas) and more importantly knights of the old republic 2.
Have made a sort of spiritual successor to new Vegas.

You wake up from a cryo pod, the corporation that is on control of the colonies thinks it's to expensive to thaw you and thousands of others, so you've been stuck in cryo for 70 years. Only when a "terrorist " breaks in and rescues you. Are you free.

You are sent down to a moon, and accidentally lands on a ship captain who are supposed to help you. You assume his identity and takes his ship.

The overall gameplay is very much like fallout,(winch I feel is the weakest part)

But the characters, stories, the world building is much like KOTOR 2, which is great. You can fill your ship with companions. That will fight with you and they can even give you buffs like better damage or better at lying.

Also unlike Fallout(but much like KOTOR 2) you use you ship to travel from planet and mons to other planets and moons.

It's a good game, even if I feel the fallout pedigree pulls it a little down.

Also if you want to try it on the cheap.
If you get x box game pass on pc(first month a buck, next months 4 bucks) you can download and play the game.
It will probably be the best buck you've spent in a while.

Sorry Outer Worlds.

I dunno, I coincidentally just started FO76 a day before the latest kerfluffle. I play with my brother who lives 2 time zones away- all we want is to wander around the wasteland, shoot robots, and look at the screwed up stuff scattered around Fallout games. We're intent on ignoring other players as much as possible. We'll probably only play once or a month or so, but if we played even weekly the $100 USD would be worth it for a private server.

As far as I can tell, most of the people pissed at FO76 were expecting some sort of MMO- that would have sucked beyond belief. I don't want to 'raid' or 'get to the endgame' or care about 'loot drop percentages' or 'griefing'. FO76 is exactly what I wanted, and pretty much the only multiplayer experience that makes sense while remaining true to the franchise.

I love Fallout 4 I've never been disappointed by it. I still play it regularly now years after release.

I never even looked at 76 because I had not interest in a online multiplayer, micro transaction, version of Fallout.

No, nobody wanted fallout 76 to be ann MMO, they wanted fallout76 to be Fallout 5.

Just look at all the bad crap this game came with.

But it's not Fallout 5, and was always announced as an online game. Might as well be pissed that it's not another Avengers movie or a bucket of chicken wings. I would have preferred a Fallout 5, but that's not what Bethesda ever said they were going to do, and the general internet whinging (not this conversation, but things like the video linked above) about it seems even more pointless and childish than usual.

The problem for 76 started from it being an online game, instead of the earlier success Fallout games.

It might have survived that had it not been released as a buggy mess (that the modding community wasn't allowed to fix), the debacles over the collectors edition canvas bags and the Nuka Cola bottles soured the already angry community. Never mind the over charging going on in the micro transactions and now them charging £100.00 GBP a year for a subscription (to fix some of its issues) to what was a full price game makes it look (rightly) as even more of a slap dash attempt to gouge the fan base. For example apparently the private servers aren't private or separate servers and the unlimited storage chest is for some disappearing the scrap rather than storing it.

Its sad to see Bethesda destroy its reputation like this.

I loved Fallout 4! And frankly, Fallout 76 never happened, like Highlander 2 or Alien: Resurrection.

Never. Happened.

Thanks for turning me on to The Outer Worlds, Gunfreak! I downloaded it last night and spent about four hours playing it into the wee hours. Good game so far!

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP05 Nov 2019 11:33 a.m. PST

Good that you like it,
It does require a bit of work to get more than 20 hours out of it.
I did the main quest and quite a few side quests in less than 14 hours.
But others have spent over 30 hours in the game.
