The fading shorelines in the photos is to indicate depth – move over one of those and roll to ground.

That really is very good.

Bigby Wolf26 Oct 2019 12:24 p.m. PST

That looks great!

And IIRC, someone was looking for a muddy waters mat last week?

On edit: A quick Google and here's the request thread by HMS Exeter:

And on 2nd edit … I see he's already seen it … forgive me for being a dullard.

Not to worry – it means I'm not alone here.

Nice looking mat.

I went to the Spoonflower site, but it's difficult to get a sense of how it all works as it seems that sorting out the graphics is needed before getting any further.

Can they do 5'x10'?

Could you ballpark the cost of a 5x10 mat with only the blue striping?

I am way excited about this.

Tks

The size of the mat is limited by the size of the cloth. The widest fleece comes in 54". There are other fabrics which go 56", but not that are 60" wide. The length is in multiples of yards. So, in the case of the 4' X 8' that I have, the cloth itself is actually 54" X 108". I play on a 4' X 8' table, so the extra is overhang.

Could I do one with just the blue stripes – you mean, I presume, just muddy water so you could add your own contours for land? Sure, I don't see why not. I've done a blue water ocean mat, but it does not have the blue shimmers – what makes that so effective is the contrast between the green and the blue stripes – happened on that by accident.

As far as costs, well the river section ran me $94 USD plus shipping. Again, it all depends on the cloth.

Hope this helps.

@Rev Zoom

I'm going to up as a Supporting Member so I can PM. Based on past experience this may take several days. Please keep an eye on your inbox.

WARMEST regards

Would you like my email?

HMS Exeter27 Oct 2019 3:45 p.m. PST

You'd have to post it in here and, while I have every confidence nothing untoward would come of that, I've already ponied up the coin to enable PM'ing, so let's put that to use.

I have had dealings with an eBay buyer who is a 6 alarm PITA. I finally broke down and blocked him about 18 months ago, a process which ended up being more laborious and costly than it should have been. Last week I find the sumB has snuck back in using a new account. (He still has the old one too.). I cancelled the sale, blocked the new account, salted the earth around my house, strung garlic everywhere, and hired a gang of banshees to mind my house.

I'm feeling the desire to be extra internet wary lately.

Just my current mileage.

But, thanks for the offer. I'll PM soon.

These are fantastic looking mats. I also play on a 4x8. Could you please contact me at kaltfather1 (at) Rochester (dot) rr (dot) com? I am a little less internet weary than Mr. Exeter! I'd love to make one of these too.

BTW – you are clearly very artistic. Your ships are lovely too. Thank you for the information on the bases. Those look to be the 3mm versions.

What rules do you play?

Thank you in advance!

Rev Zoom28 Oct 2019 8:34 a.m. PST

I use Dave Manley's Iron and Fire. The graphics are better on the Steam and Sail Navies ship forms, but the play is better with I & F.

Thank you on the ships. I am a modeler and have won the IPMS Most Popular twice at the IPMS Nationals.

Yes, thos are the 3mm bases.

I'll send you an email.

Well, my Supporting Membership has gone active, but so far, no PM button has appeared.

I think sometimes I'm the Charlie Brown of 21st century tech.

Good greif…

HMS Exeter30 Oct 2019 5:10 a.m. PST

It's official. I'm Charlie Brown.

Turns out having a Supporting Membership is of limited utility if your intended recipient isn't one too. Bill has graciously offered to grace Rev Zoom in for a few days to get past this, but Basic Members almost never get Messages, so it's likely he'll miss any that I send him.

So, I send an email to Rusty B, to ask that he pass along my contact info. It bounces as I mistype his address. I fix it and send again. Some hours later that one bounces as well as his institutional inbox interprets email from my workplace as Spam.

So last night I write again from home, but Rusty wont get it until today, and I wont get any response until tonight.

Ah technology…

I really should just give up…

not happening…

Got your email. Give me a day or two to reply. I have big funeral this weekend and have a bit to do.

HMS Exeter31 Oct 2019 6:22 a.m. PST

Take as long as you need. And again, thanks.
