Yes, late to the party, but I've been coveting some of these 28mm Bolt Action miniatures for a long time. Are the metal figures more complete in terms of overall casting, e.g. having a lot of the weapons and various kit items cast on, instead of being separate, like the plastic ones are? I really like the looks of the plastic figs, and love the variety of poses and weapons afforded to them, but I don't have the time or patience right now to construct multi-part troops, so am looking for the more traditional style, single-piece (or just a few pieces), metal castings. Are the Bolt Action metal figs fairly complete right out of the box, or do you need to glue on lots of small bits just like for the plastic minis? Also, how do these compare in size, heft, and weapons sizes to those sold by: Bolt Action's plastic minis (presumably identical, or very similar to their metal troops in size and heft?), Empress, Artizan, Crusader, Black Tree Design, West Wind, Perry, 1st Corps, and The Assault Group? Feel free to compare and contrast any others as well, for quality, size, etc., too, that I may have left off. Ideally, I'm looking towards the larger end of the 28mm spectrum, to go with some 1/48th – 1/50th scale vehicles already owned (too late to switch to 1/56th now). |

The 1st Corps range were originally designed with 1/50 and 1/48 vehicles in mind. 1/56 didn't exist when the range was first released. |

Yes, I recall that, hence my 1/48th – 1/50th scale vehicles. Would like some troops that match 1st Corps in size and heft, though not sure that is possible from what I've read. Sadly, 1st Corps don't offer as many poses. or even ranges of troops as I'd like to see, e.g. no LMGs for their snow suit troop packs, and no hand-held A/T weapons either – Panzerfausts or Panzerschrecks (they do make those for the Summer though). I've inquired to see if they'll change that, and hope they will, but that may take a while. Also, not US Army or Airborne troops for the Americans from 1st Corps either. |

Artizans are my favorites. |

I have the Crusader minis, and some Bolt Action minis that came with the books – they seem compatible. (No idea on plastics) |

If you want to mix with 1st Corps then Artizan, Crusader, Black Tree Design and The Assault Group would be the best fit. None of them quite match 1st Corps style, but once painted and on the table it won't notice. Victory Force are tall miniatures, but not as chunky as 1st Corps and they have GW style slotta bases and often separate weapons that need gluing on. |

Hello Thresher. If you are looking for Winter Gewrmans mid to Late war, you do not have to look far from the plastic kits, because Warlord rage is possibly the best and most complete around. As a quick overlook: link I am not expert of other makers scales, so I am not able to help with comparisons, I do own some Artizan and Assault Group models that i am mixing with Warlord's and their scale usually fits well, but these are from different periods though. In regards of ease of assembly, the gran majority of the Warlord Winter German metal models are single cast, possibly with just the separate heads to glue on. For your squads: link link …for your support teams and Artillery: link link link link link link link …plus you also have choices of vehicle crews: link link link link Finally, you can also ask for gebrigsjaeger support: link Please be aware that during this weekend Warlord is celebrating its 12th anniversary, and offers a 12% discount on most of its range… and on already discounted deals too! I hope this helps! Lorenzo, Warlord Gamer Customer Service |

The Bolt Action metal figures are complete figures. There just are not many of them other than the various teams and the HG units, at least in the USMC, which is what I got into. Other forces may be more complete. |

The Bolt Action metal figs are complete. You will have to assemble the artillery pieces. They mix fine with The Assault Group. These comments pertain to my experience with the figs for the WWII Pacific Theater of Operations. |

Warlord has discontinued many of their metal figure sets over the years. I'm not sure why. The plastic figures are very fragile with weapons breakage common. The newest plastic sets have a lot less assembly items (ie weapon is cast with both arms holding it – the first ones had individual arms and separate weapons). The weapon thickness has gotten better (thicker) to help lessen breakage (there's a reason GW weapons are so huge; prevent breakage). Kit is combined so far less parts to glue on the newest figures. Warlord plastics are no screaming value in the box at regular price – close to metal prices. Half price sprue sales make them more reasonable. Black Friday should have sprue sales (they've been less lately with Buy 2get 1Free type of offers, so who knows what's going to happen this year). Get a couple and see what you think. They are nice but fragile. |
