So if you are a 40k player, you just might remember that 1st (and I think 2nd) Edition Imperial Guard were so kick-**s that they had access to:

Land Raiders, Land Speeders, Bikes & Jet Bikes, and Jump Pack equipped Assault troops.

The poll is, if you are currently an AM player, then when 40k eventually moves in to 9th edition should the Guard/AM revert back to the 1st Edition for some or all of its equipment choices?

I'm "100%" yes. I think it would be a good way to revitalize the boring old "Lemans and Infantry" Guard formula.

Thanks for input.

It is the only way that they would get me to reconsider the game again.

I am worry that Primaris Astra Militarum is more inline with their plans.

I remember those days, I'd assume that the reasoning was to make an obvious split between higher tech space marine and imperial guard tech.

Personally I'd say its possible that a lot of the present space marine vehicles could make its way back into the guards ranks simply to keep them available as they replaced by new Primaris stuff. I'd expect there reintroduction would be tied to new guard regiments (which would need new codexs) rather than there being a whole sale replacement of existing guard tech.

Anything that gives my 7000 or so points of Guard more kick is good by me

My problem is that I refuse to play Astra Militarum and will only play Imperial Guard. So, it doesn't matter what they get to use in 9th (for me). I know they were protecting their IP by changing IG to AM, but it's still lame…

40K has jumped the shark a long time ago. Much of what they are turning out currently is just so over the top. I do Epic and have since '89. So my opinion is of little value if you are a 40K player anyway …

that's why I don't chain myself so slavishly to GW. I don't need to play in their fanboy stores so I can play as I wish we still use squats we use non GW stuff and believe it or not we survive and have fun

JLA10524 Oct 2019 9:08 p.m. PST

Don't forget the Beastman assault troops!

Zephyr124 Oct 2019 9:42 p.m. PST

emkinney, you would not know it by the forces I've seen

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP25 Oct 2019 8:30 a.m. PST

Beastmen def need a revamp. Ogryns and Penal-type troops ("Conscripts") are still in their last I checked.

I'm putting together some large Ogryn squads for my Inquisitorial company.

Human bombs would be interesting. Maybe the updated ones could be Servitors?

Pizzagrenadier25 Oct 2019 8:35 a.m. PST

If you're looking for Beastmen that really channel the Paul Bonner era, then Victoria minis is where it's at.

They also have Penal troops (which could easily become human bombs).

Though i am versed in 4th and 5th edition(Thanks to Miniwargaming.com videos) i play 2nd….why mess with a great system and vehicles that sometimes have to be literally shot to pieces bit by bit.

I always assumed that in those days the Imperial Guard got Space Marine equipment simply because there weren't any models yet for all the Imperial Guard vehicles (Baneblades, etc.) Once they became available, the Space Marine equipment was phased out.
