I watched this yesterday. It's an old Disney flick with some VSF/Pulp ideas in it. It has an airship, explorers, vikings, volcanoes and killer whales. It might be useful for some gaming fodder.

This one had David Hartmann. McClure was in The Land that Time Forgot and a couple of related films I think. Island reminded me a little of Disney's In Search of the Castaways with Haley Mills. They had several not too bad Sf fantasy adventures in the 70s. You could always count on the Disneys for pretty good production values and sfx.

A big part of their sfx success was due to incredible matte paintings.

I rewatched this last year and loved it. Cheeseball but great for its genre.

Yes. There is a bonus feature on the Darby O'Gill and the Little People DVD showing how the sfx were done. Weel worth watching.

I loved the airship (Hyperion?) in Island at the Top of the World. Took my daughter to see it when she was 5 yrs old; when the crew were fighting off the killer whales with oars, she started laughing- she thought they were brushing the orcas teeth!

I'm sooooo foggy!

I keep conflating with In Search of the Castaways…

'Wait, how could they have shot a condor in the Arctic Sea???

*blush*
