"The cinema maintains a complicated relationship status with (more) hard-science science fiction stories and settings. However, it the last few years, more movies are being made with more importance placed on science. In the tradition of Interstellar, Homer's the Odyssey, and Heart of Darkness; comes Brad Pitt's and James Gray's voyage into the solar system with Ad Astra. I saw this movie in Medford, Oregon on 9/27/19 while far from home while attended a work training…"

I agree with most of what the reviewer had to say.

It is a beautiful film, but there are a number of plot holes and other abject silliness in it as well, which sadly, reduces its potential.

Could have used a lot better writing, and missed some great opportunities to easily make it better, sadly.

For the visuals alone, you really should see it in the theater though, unless you have a really large screen TV at home.

I'm awaiting to see it on TV … But the previews looked interesting.

Thresher01, I agree.

Lots of holes, but well made

Beautiful film and good performance by Pitt and supporting cast. I agree there are some silly elements in the plot. It seems likely to me the writer started with the concept of recreating Heart of Darkness in space then conceived the scenes cinematically then storyboarded then wrote a script to shoehorn these all together.

The first third to half of the movie is quite good, but then things go down hill.

+1 to CeruLucifus

I kept thinking Heart of Darkness going out to space to get Kurtz.
