Hello,

Working on 1940 BEF for CoC. I am pretty confident that front line infantry formations had transitioned to BD by the time of the German invasion of May 1940. However, did any rear echelon units still used service Dress in May of 1940?

Also any recomendations for regimental historys that are particulary good for this period?

thanks, Dave

From the exchange about the new Empress interwar figures – the answer is yes some of the BEF has SD, some had BD.

Can't help with books, but at least one Osprey book is mentioned in the exchange.

I couldn't find any photos of troops in SD in May 1940, however there are pictures from 1939 of soldiers in 1939. During the winter of the phony war they are mainly wearing greatcoats which is a bit unhelpful!

I did find one photo of the Coldstream Guards in December 1939 in greatcoats and puttees, so clearly in SD.

So, really it is a mixed bag. You may find some LOC and Territorial units in SD but I can't be definite one way or another.
