Inspired by the recent Little Wars TV episode, I've decided to 'dip my toe' into Napoleonic naval by 'pushing the boat out' and investing in the Forged in Battle 1/3000 Trafalgar sets. Here is Nelson's fleet, which took about a week to paint up. I'm now moving on to the other side.

Nice to see this new foray taking shape. Loved the Little Wars TV video, so can appreciate why…

Nicely executed paint jobs. Keep going the results will be worth it. I hope you find suitable rules for actions at this scale.

I've never been sure about the blue tarpaulin sea effect, especially for smaller scales but, then again my plain dark blue isn't great either. Some of the commercially available seascape table mats are possibly the way to go. I keep considering a upgrade but my table is 15 x 6 so it always looks an expensive job. Like most big terrain purchases (£150+ on rubber roads being my last), I'll eventually hold my nose and jump right in only to find the water is lovely.

It will look good good when finished but, I hope you have a big table.

Once upon a time I had these (Hallmark) Trafalgar fleets (now residing somewhere in the USA), including all the frigates, etc.

My scale of choice for AOS. I use "Follow the Admirals Wake" rules and we usually get 20-40 ships per side to conclusion in 3+/- hours.

Fleet v fleet just works for me as opposed to ship v ship or squadron v squadron.

Thanks for the tips, but I'll be using Fire As She Bears, as used in the Little Wars TV episode, and sticking to my couple of plastic dust sheets that cost a couple of quid from a local hardware shop!

Following on from Nelson's Fleet a couple of weeks ago, here's his Franco-Spanish opposition in 1-3000 link

It's all your fault, pushing tin! Just ordered the "Forged in Battle" British and Franco-Spanish fleets, plus a packet of large frigates, a couple of days ago.

I was also motivated to get a copy of Mark Adkin's, "The Trafalgar Companion"

Great work on your ships, by the way.

Thanks :)

I was going to try and get the Trafalgar Companion but it seemed to be out of print

Got mine from abebooks.co.uk

Second hand, but good condition, for £50.00 GBP

Unfortunately, the cheapest one there at the moment is £70.00 GBP, although some are asking up to £385.00 GBP!

Yes I'd noticed it 2nd hand and pricey! Sounds like you found a bargain! I'll just have to keep my eye out :)
