Over on the Sherman board on Yahoo (G104) one of the regular contributors posted a link to the British Army report on The Specialized Armour of the 79th Division. Thought would pass it on to those with some interest in the topic or the unit.

I've read it and heard about it before, the special purposes AFVs of the 79th were sometimes referred to as "Funnies". It's also in the first line of the article.

Given the heightened interest in the specialised armour of the 79th Armoured Division, often referred to as ‘Hobart's funnies', around the time of Operation OVERLORD,

That is what they were called and it came to mind. I though many would know that as well. It is an interesting name for some AFVs, IMO …
