Ha, all amateurs. My Mom (in the mid 1950's) diced carrots and mixed them into Peanut Butter to make it crunchy! All the other "crunchy" peanut butter guys came later.

@genew49: Did your mom show that technique to my mom, who was doing it in the 1960s?

My mom also stuffed peanut butter into the groove of celery sticks, which made both the peanut butter and the celery taste way better.
