I ordered a heavy cruiser and d7 from Shapeways recently. I'd never used the service before and was curious so decided to throw caution to the wind and see what I got.

Really regret that choice now. I went with the "cheap" option of versatile plastic, cheap is in quotations here because the reality is they were comparable in cost to GW minis.

Aside from the ridiculous warping issue the actual material itself demolished any trace of detail and is so fuzzy I could use them to texture greenstuff with. Incidentally that might end up being what I use them for as I'd rather have empty bases on my table than those two train wrecks.

So, my other option then is spending $24 USD to almost $40 USD on a tiny little 1/3788 scale mini? Am I missing something? Are folks actually buying this nonsense? Don't get me wrong, this isn't a case of the uninitiated being unaware of the cost of the hobby. Like I alluded to, I've been a long time customer of GW so am well accustomed to sticker shock but come on, even with GW if you drop $40 USD on plastic you can at least displace a little water.

Really is a shame, a designer has some awesome looking "micro" Star Trek stuff that I'll not be picking up. Never thought GW would be the more economically friendly option…

Maybe you got a bad batch? I have been happy with the stuff I have ordered. For items I need detailed I spend the extra $. USD
Some of the old SFB minis have little detail on them.

Shapeways way too expensive…just get yourself a 3D printer…save tons of cash, and get what you want in how many quantities.

Shapeways has been messing with their pricing models for the past year and have totally made a dog's breakfast or of it. Most of my models went up in price, with a number of them tripling in price with no explanation. It seriously has damaged my enthusiasm for building more models.

Darkfine, those micro Star Trek models are mine. If you're interested in them, I'm thinking about posting the STL files for sale on CGTrader.com.

I haven't gotten shapeways ships yet, I just get the metal ones from ADB.

I find CG trader very hard to navigate. Also why don't they sell STL files that's the standard.

I'd be interested in knowing what files you would face for sale
