If I wanted to cast my own figures in 54mm scale, what type of resin would work best? White metal could get a bit expensive and it tends to thrash moulds in my experience.

I'll be interested at what you find out. I can think of a dozen figures I'd like to make molds for, starting with artillerymen for every nation aside from France and Britain.

sadly unless you vacuum the moulds the resin will not get into the smaller out parts of the moulds, like toes and fingers, even metal does not always cast well, it also depends on the figure pose.

I was really thinking of copying the Airfix 54mm Coldstream Guard (who is in fact just a line infantry centre company man, or can be – which nobody makes).
