Possibly in response to the previous post. A thing that I do that most of us do. Off hand how many armies or games have you made but not played. It's not a competition – more a wake up call. 28mm Rus and Teutonic, 15mm Japanese – enough for two sides – Zomies- 15mm Humans- Orcs -Dwarf (3 armies). – WW2 1/144 scale aircraft Brits, German, American, Japanese… |

By "made," I assume you mean "bought, assembled, painted and based"? |
sillypoint | 30 Sep 2019 5:32 p.m. PST |
Yep. The list goes on as I remember things.. 15mm Polish and Ottomans. Being a part of a larger group, I have to make both sides for a game. |

28mm Vikings. I have 3 rule sets. Not played anything yet. And yes I am still painting more. |

Matched armies, never played, over 300 per side: Samurai Turks/Poles 10mm Battle of the Bulge 1st Crusades 1977 Old School Fantasy, freshly painted I paint a lot. And never game. |

I have a lot more "bought not painted" than "made not played". OK, made not played, as much as I remember just sitting here at the computer: 54mm ninjas (1980s in a big bag; ring hands) 54mm goblins (1980s in a big bag; ring hands) 1:32 Airfix U.S. 7th Cavalry of 1876 1:32 Airfix Bundeswehr of 1970s 1:32 Airfix SAS of 1970s I see a pattern: Bigger figures don't get used in games. I did once try to turn SPI's Sniper into a miniatures game with Airfix 1:32 British paratroopers and Wehrmacht infantry. It was OK. |

Lucius- you make me feel better, I do occasionally chip some of my armies off this list, but not as fast as I am adding to this list at the moment. These are armies I can put on the table, at a moments notice…..if I remember where I stored them. 😜🤪 |
Old Contemptible | 30 Sep 2019 9:30 p.m. PST |
28mm WWI British from Foundry and Germans from OG. Decided to switch to 15mm. Sold all the 28mm WWI locally. |

Glad to help, SP. To make you feel even bettr, the 800-strong samurai army was painted in 1995. And has been re-based once. And has still never seen the tabletop. It does look fabulous, though. |
ZULUPAUL | 01 Oct 2019 4:01 a.m. PST |
Actually most of them. A number of DBA armies, retinues for Lion Rampant, Sci-Fi troops etc. Also lots of bought & not painted that I'm slowly selling off. |
BrotherSevej | 01 Oct 2019 4:43 a.m. PST |
Well, here and there, but my crowning glory is a full 40k Space Marines company. Legal for a game, but no I have no intention of playing it using 40k rules. Other rules? Probably, someday. |
Col Durnford | 01 Oct 2019 6:15 a.m. PST |
More that I like to think about. Of the ones that have made it to the tabletop, only a fraction of the figures in the collection were present to see dice rolled in pleasure. |
IUsedToBeSomeone | 01 Oct 2019 6:25 a.m. PST |
I have sold the painted armies that I never managed to play with: 15mm Hittites 15mm egyptians 15mm Arab Conquest see a theme there….. I also have sold all the collections that I bought and nevr painted and never gamed with. I do have an EIR roman army that I have played one game with, but I am planning on sorting out the basing and then using it. And everyone has to have one roman army! Mike |

I do not have an army that has never seen the table. Usually once I finish it, I run a game right away. That said, I'm sure there are units within my collections that have never seen the table. In my 15mm SciFi, for example, I have dozens of small skirmish "factions." These are platoon sized forces. Most have seen action, at least partially, but I'm sure there are at least a few virgins in the lot. However, my age of sail has only been used once and is headed for the trading block. I just can't get in to naval gaming – no terrain 99% of the time so no spectacle. Meh. |
Timmo uk | 01 Oct 2019 9:17 a.m. PST |
I've used all of armies at some stage in time but I've added to them and I suspect about 40% of the figures I've painted haven't been used. |
Doug MSC | 01 Oct 2019 9:28 a.m. PST |
I have three periods I game with by rotating the games. 40mm FIW, 40mm AWI and 60mm Rome and her enemies. I am adding to the Romans right now but I don't have any collections laying around that I don't game with. When I get tired of a period I have gamed with, I will sell it rather than it lay around gathering dust. I can't tell you how many I have sold over the years that I have been gaming, but they are many. I am happy to know that others are gaming with the armies that would have been sitting on my shelfs. This has enabled me to do a vast amount of historical periods I would have never got into. And, no, I don't regret selling off any. |

With Jim. Too many to count. Too few surviving gamers. No affection for solo. I keep selling them off, but even so… |
Endless Grubs | 01 Oct 2019 9:46 a.m. PST |
For my next disappointment, I will purchase and paint a 28mm Indian Army for Tactica. These I will then add to pile of painted but not played…. As piepenbrink above. |
robert piepenbrink | 01 Oct 2019 1:56 p.m. PST |
You're more ambitious than I am, Grubs. I'm wrapping 6mm Confederates, DAK and Western Desert Italians. Then in the next convention cycle, I'll be selling off 15mm WWII North Africa, 10mm Second Empire and 15mm medieval--all unplayed. Maybe I can use some of the money to round out my unplayed 5mm Ancients. |

Too many. Some I self published in my Time Portal Passages magazine. One we never released was Distant World battles which was fast play similar to DBA and had force options of 12, 18 and 24 commands. We even had masters made for 10-12mm SciFi Canines, Felines, Avians and minotaurs/Centaurs. The Army lists were enjoyable to do and took many hours. I no longer have the masters but I am reviewing the rules to update them for this decade. There are other systems, some fast play and other traditional matrix combat. Oh well. |

Forces – one Slaaneshi force and one squad of kitsune scouts that haven't seen the table yet. Probably a dozen or more extensions to existing forces that have not been exercised with their parent force yet. |

Well, that makes me feel a little better. |
