Into the time vortex shoes no news or releases for months. Something must be afoot. With the blurays still (for now?) coming out, one would think WL would be capitalising on it with relevant releases. Anyone have any info? |
magical monstrous steve | 25 Sep 2019 2:41 a.m. PST |
Maybe they're busy sculpting female versions of all of the characters. |
King Monkey | 25 Sep 2019 4:14 a.m. PST |
Supposedly new releases out around December according to a comment on the facebook page. 2nd Doctor, 7th Doctor and UNIT. link It's not looking good for the range, maybe Warlord should give up and let someone else that might be a bit more committed have a go. |
WG Lorenzo | 25 Sep 2019 7:52 a.m. PST |
Hi folks! We absolutely haven't dropped Dr Who – we've just been incredibly busy with other releases recently. I can confirm that in the upcoming months we'll have UNIT soldiers and heroes, as well as the Weeping Angels – and that's just some of what we've got planned! Keep an eye on social media and our newsletter for all the latest news! |

I'm glad to hear it WG Lorenzo! :) |

Not sure what the vortex site is for then? I'm sorry but weeping angels does not improve my view of things. I think the commitment to the modern tat is perhaps half the problem. Maybe MM Steve is correct? I would not be surprised, just disappointed. Anyway… 2nd, 7th and UNIT sounds good. Notice no news on new plastics. Unless the UNIT release is plastic??? I assume not. Also, what's up with not releasing entire stories? As I recall Lynx was very much out numbered. Are the heros going to be more doctors and companions or some actual secondary characters??? I assume there are extra licence fees to use actors likenesses??? The fact Warlord Games have better things to do than release product for Dr Who, may be telling??? PS just tried the FB page. You can't see comments unless you join FB. Good as useless. Vortex, good as useless. So you have to be spammed by WL to know what's going on. Or not…Thank goodness for TMP! |

The facebook page is a public group I'm not on Facebook and can read all the comments. |

Nope. Tried again. I click on comments and it just goes to the original post. Must be me. |

I liked the initial plastic Daleks and Cybermen sets but have too much invested in various 28mm figures to justify moving over to these larger size miniatures. It does however seem to be bit on the back burner. There isn't much to see-at least I'm not stumbling across anything-by way of attempts to whip up enthusiasm for the game, except some individual blogs. I'd like to see another plastic set of something but understand that's a costly undertaking. |
Mirosav | 26 Sep 2019 3:52 p.m. PST |
Did they finally realize it was a poor choice of scale and sub-par rules? |
The H Man | 26 Sep 2019 6:24 p.m. PST |
"We absolutely haven't dropped Dr Who" Apparently not. I feel thinning everything out across classic and modern was a mistake. A lot of people are on one side of the fence, or (hack spit) the other. The subject matter also becomes far to broad for any one game session and you still can't play out a story proper, as most of the characters are missing. Also they are either doing classic OR modern versions of most things. All very messy. |

Why Haven't we seen (or have I just missed it) SJS? Should be in at least two different sets (4th and moderns), with different ages. |
King Monkey | 28 Sep 2019 9:14 a.m. PST |
I think Sarah Jane will probably turn up with Jon Pertwee's Doctor if Warlord ever get round to doing them. |

I'm wondering if it's a licensing issue from her show. |
King Monkey | 13 Oct 2019 10:56 a.m. PST |
There's a statement on the facebook page about what's happening with range. link Basically nothing anytime soon. |
Asteroid X | 14 Oct 2019 1:36 p.m. PST |
For all who do not want to patronize facebook: Thank you to those who have been inundating us with messages asking when the new sets are coming out. Due to a few ongoing licensing issues that are holding things up, coupled with our manufacturing team trying to keep up with demand for other ranges and preparing for the launch of our Dredd range, the Doctor Who releases have been placed on the back burner for the time being. In this gap year for the show, demand and sales for the range have been lower than anticipated. When the programme is off the air it has proven financially unviable to release new product at the same rate as we have been doing in previous years. So, for now, I cannot be 100% certain when the next release will materialise. That's not to say we won't be releasing further sets in the foreseeable future, we have a number of mostly approved products and more being worked on for next year including something big I'm sure our loyal followers will be excited for. Our first game in the range has already seen more than thirty figure expansion packs over the past couple of years, so whilst we all await the new releases I must say I am extremely proud to have been part of what we have achieved so far. I thank each and every one of you for all the lovely feedback, letters, emails and suggestions for the future of the range that we enjoy reading immensely. I've just seen the Night of the Doctor set being painted in the studio last week, to see the Eighth and War Doctor sculpts ready for approval is a dream come true. More news will follow over the coming weeks, so thank you all for your patience and loyalty and we can't wait to show you what we have up our sleeves. I know it's frustrating, but as Doctor Who fans we waited sixteen years for a new series and it was worth that wait. I promise you all these new sets will be worth it!

Interesting statement, especially this part: "Due to a few ongoing licensing issues that are holding things up" I had heard on the rumour mill that licencees were angry with Chip's about what he had turned Dr Who into and killing sales of Dr Who merchandise. As such, they were venting their frustrations at the BBC due to lack of sales. Their statement: "…demand and sales for the range have been lower than anticipated" seems to support that this is a common problem and although not outright proof, it lends credence to what I posted a while back here. I guess if you don't release any new miniatures for the best part of a year demand and sales are going to be lower. |
The H Man | 19 Oct 2019 2:23 p.m. PST |
Does look pretty doom and gloom. However, reading it differently, they may be releasing a new game. "Our first game in the range" Over all, not looking too good. I wonder what the licensing issues are with? |
The H Man | 19 Oct 2019 6:46 p.m. PST |
Doh! Obviously, if things aren't selling so well, Warlord will be trying to get cheaper deals on licensing. "When the programme is off the air it has proven financially unviable to release new product at the same rate as we have been doing in previous years." The classic series has been off the air for some time (repeats aside) so that statement makes no sense for that product line. Of course the modern tat is plagued by flash in the pan fan loyalty, so I can see the issue there, I'm surprised they didn't see it day one and only do classic who with a proven, reliable, growing fan base, instead of alienating many of them (no pun intended). |
The H Man | 08 Dec 2019 4:20 p.m. PST |
Only tumbleweed and a black friday 3 for 2 sale can be seen in the vortex. What's this? Nothing new for Christmas, despite all the modern Christmas eps??? It's not too late, I'm sure they have a mechanoid or roboman lurking in the factory somewhere. |
King Monkey | 11 Dec 2019 12:04 p.m. PST |
Facebook page announced a revamp of the web site in the new year probably along with a price rise. |
The H Man | 11 Dec 2019 4:29 p.m. PST |
Thanks. I'll have to remember to check it again later. Not sure there is much to revamp though, unless they mean the entire Warlord site? |

Blacktree Design has lots of classic Dr Who miniatures. |
Fergo113 | 10 Jan 2020 3:54 a.m. PST |
Blacktree Design are excellent. 28mm scale so there is an issue mixing the two. I use the Warlord ones that I like to act as Leader, Sub-Leader units for the Blacktree Design mini's. I also use the Warlord Daleks for Imperials and the Black Tree Daleks for renegades with Davros. But I only play the Doctor Who Miniatures Game rules, not Warlords rules. |

Part of the fun of wargaming DW is that you can go anywhere in in the earth's history or all over the cosmos; you can use figs from any historical period and SF figs from any manufacturer to create new adventures for the Doctor or the races featured in the show. There are so many miniatures out there to choose from to expand your DW who games that imagination really is the limit. But in picking a wonky scale incompatible with this Warlord has made sure I will never buy their figures. I suspect others are staring to realise this critical flaw in Warlord's range as well… |
trynda1701 | 28 Mar 2020 2:10 p.m. PST |
I've never understood why manufacturers have been slowly upping the scale for skirmish level games like this, in any genre Yes, you have to get us, the punters, to buy the new stuff. But what's wrong with giving us cool new stuff, that's even better than cool old stuff? 😃😎 |
The H Man | 20 Jan 2021 2:27 a.m. PST |
Hmm… Is there a new site yet? The time vortex is as dead as a door nob. Last news from November 2019. I suspect this describes the range as a whole?? |
Fergo113 | 29 Jan 2021 4:14 a.m. PST |
I've splashed out some cash over the last two months to get all the Classic style series mini's from Warlord that I wanted. Noticed that a number of items are "out of stock" and not being replaced. So my guess is that its going the way of the show's current ratings. Probably also makes me their last customer for that product line. |
The H Man | 08 Feb 2021 3:55 p.m. PST |
It's probably for the best. They handled things in a real daffy way. Hopefully someone else gets their hands on the licence soon and make better of it. Preferably someone who can give it longevity, like black tree, or like GW have done with LOTR. Mantic could be a contender, but the price for them may be too high, and their stuff seems wishy-washy in quality. Unfortunately GW may do the best with it, at least their plastics seem consistent, back in fine cast days it would have been a horror. I've got a leaning banner now to deal with after straightening it in hot water already, no thank you. |
The H Man | 18 Jul 2021 6:57 p.m. PST |
Yep. I it's almost 2 years since news in the vortex. Looks like they are just going to try to sell out of stuff until the licence lapses. It would be nice for an official word on this. I'll comment on the Facebook post shown up above: "In this gap year for the show, demand and sales for the range have been lower than anticipated. When the programme is off the air it has proven financially unviable to release new product at the same rate as we have been doing in previous years." How long is a gap year exactly?? This is also very telling, as the classic show has been off the air some time, yet they still apparently sold product, it's still very popular. The new tat stops and suddenly classic fans stop buying??? Even with the regular Bluray releases??? I call, you know what. Personally, I feel it was the new tat holding them back. If anything sales should go up, especially if they actually focused on the classic show. With the new show canned or at least under the radar, it's no longer embarrassing to call your self a Who fan. Eg. Who wants to have to buy two tat "masters" to get three proper ones? You end up paying more than if they just had the 3 on their own. (Idea! Make your own movie master, by melting one of the tat ones. Or both to get two slimy looking poses!) This endless try to get classic fans to accept the modern tat is obviously hurting, not just warlord, but the BBC and others. If they just accepted and treated them as two different shows, it would help everyone. Even people who like both shows could still buy both. Everyone wins. As its rebranding with ultra modern logo on classic just helps keep me away, and others no doubt. " I must say I am extremely proud to have been part of what we have achieved so far." Some miss matched boxed sets? Random figures or ones that (try to) force people to buy figures they don't want. Now a basically dead mess of a range. Yes, truly a chest puffing moment. I probably am a bit bitter. But rightly so, from the start the range was wrong for me, and many other fans. Wrong scale, too much modern focus, mixing shows. Just a hot mess. Id love to hear how this happened, what board room decisions led to this. I suspect the BBC is much to blame, pushing the modern stuff. We saw it with Terminator genysis minis. Licence owners really need to place some clear lines between new rubbish they are trying to promote and the long loved original versions. Make money from both separately, or as with who figures, loose in the end. |
